  1. my tank is 2nd hand, including filter, and transporting tank only 2h, so does that mean that there is enough benificial bacteria?

It's a bonus that your tank is 2nd hand but that doesn't mean they transportit with water?

I cycle my tank for 50days then pu in livestock.

Ever since then, I dun have any fish dying experience accept for being suck into overflow filtration system.

  2. Btw, from some online information that I gather there are some cases where the ball valves not fitted for downflow as the need the flow to be unrestricted as possible. Ball valves are fitted only for those return that are T-off . I believe most of us will have ball valves fitted. Maybe not a norm to go without but for peace of mind rather not having it at all.

What's your peace of mind u refering to?

If u r trying to say if return pump stops of power failure u can use that (ball valve) to prevent water from back flow and overflow your sump, unless your ball valve is electronic. Otherwise it's still the same...

  3. I roughly got what u mean.

What he say is partially true. But FYI there's a very high end ball valve available out there in ther market. If not wrong per pc cost about 20 over dollars.

Anyway, just to answer to your question.

Ball valve do create headloss for your return pump.

2ndly yes if your piping is run properly u wouldn't need a ball valve in terms of do not place return pump output piping in water will in order when u stop the pump, the water will not be suck into the sump.

  4. dear reefers,

can anyone tell me the necessary temperature for keeping zoas? cause i need to see if i should buy a chiller or not?

What's the diamension of your tank?

What kind of light u using?

    What type of filtration system?

  5. is there any way to lower my tank's temperature without using a chiller?

    i am currently using a fan for my 2 feet x 1 feet x 1.5 feet tank.

    temperature is 28-28.5.....

That's should be the best temp your fan can provide u with already.

Anyway even if u can achieve 27 or so also no use coz it will not stay there permanently. Temp will fluctuate due to the surrounding temp also.

If raining day more cooling and if hot n sunny day u can even c it climbing to 29 or so. :)

    depend what u wanna keep.

If mainly wan low temp only,

dun locate your tank too near to wall, (at least 4" away)

direct your fan 45 degree and blow across the water surface,

    dun use wavemaker,

dun use any form of lighting.
