  1. Started to dose bacteria. Will let it cycle for 2weeks b4 doing any water test.

Plan is to have 2to 3 small fishes and some easy lps corals. Izzit ok if I don't use a skimmer? Should I add a small wavemaker also? Many thanks

  2. Bought 3kg of sand and 5kg of live rock last week. Due to previous experience of too much pest in the lr, decided to deep the lr in fresh water for 2days and after that let it dry in the sun. Today start the setup to cycle the water first

  3. Dear Reefers,

I have a question to ask. I have a Yellow tang who is the taiko of my 30gallon tank. It is about 2inch and has been in the tank

for 6months. Last 2days, went and bought a smaller blue tang about 1 1/2inch. I put the blue tang in the betta box so that he can

get use to the water in my main diplay. Immediately my yt came rushing towards the bt. Luckily it was in the betta box. So i caught

the yt and put it in the sump tank and release the bt into the display. Maybe after 3-4days then only put back the yt in\to the display

so that the bt have time to get use to the environment. Will this plan work?? Its very hard for me to rearrange rockscape. Thanks

  4. Hi Fellow Reefers,

Today morning i woke up to find the water in my 30gallon tank become abit cloudy. Really puzzled, the tank has been running for 4months already.

I feed twice daily. Really puzzled, so far the fishes are ok and the corals are still opening. The only thing is my small mandarin(about 1inch)

died and its being eaten now by my coral banded shrimp. Can such a small fish cause my water to be cloudy? My current livestock is:

    Yellow tang x1

    Flame angel x1

    Clown x3

    Long Nose hawkfish x1

    Benggai Cardinal x1

    Bicolor dottyback x1

    Blue Jaw Trigger x1

    toadstool x1

    torch coral x1

    frogspawn x1

    colt coral x1

    flower pot x1

    flavia x1

    plate coral x1

I will take a picture tonight. Really a bit worried now. Any reefers have the same experience, please advise. Thank you very much

  5. purple anthias have 3 kinds. Yours is definitely on of the three below, but without a photo, i can only assume it's purple queen anthias, being the most commonly offered "purple anthias".

Pseudanthias tuka - commonly called purple queen anthias.

Pseudanthias pasculus - commonly called purple anthias. However they look almost identical to purple queens and alot of people mix them up. for simplicity sake, both shall be considered purple queen anthias.

Pseudanthias evansi - purple also with a yellow band running down the dorsal region.

all the above 3 "purple anthias" are very difficult to keep. requires alot of feeding and most usually pine away even after feeding.

the "purple anthias" are one of the harder ones to keep. you should try other hardier species.

Tqvm for the advice. Will try my best to get it to eat. Although it is shy but its really a fish with class and style of its own. Really like

it a lot. Tried feeding with brine shrimp but it didnt show much interest. Will try mysis and cyclopeze :peace:

  6. Purple Queens are really difficult to get them to feed. In fact I'm only able to get them to take mysis and cyclopeeze. I tried pellets soaked in garlic but no success..maybe the size is too large. If you have a larger group, they tend to be less shy. Low lights also help.. blue light? Regular feeding (more than 2 times a day) is needed else they will starve ( head bigger than body) and die... wish you luck

Thx for the advice bro :ThanxSmiley: . Btw, just to ask mysis isit the same as brine shrimp??

  7. I bought a purple anthias 3days ago, the day it went to the tank, straight away hiding and onli started coming out a few times and each time onli 1-2minit. Really a shy fish . Really having a hard time trying to get him to be more active and also trying to get him eat. Anyone have an anthias that is feeding on pellets? Please advise cos really dunt want it to die. Tqvm

  8. Hi To All Reefers,

I have a 2feet(30gallon) tank which is cycling for 5days now. About 15kg of liverocks has been added and a market prwan thrown

in to start the cycle. Can see a lot of die of from the lr.Also a lot of deritus on the floor of the tank now. The question is can

i put in the coral sand after i complete my cycle? The problem is i dunt want to put the sand now due to all the deritus and also dont

wanna do water change as it will slowdown the cycling time. So is it ok to pour in the sand after complete cyling? Thanks a million

  9. "Hi Sifus, i'm not a Sifu, but i guess i'll chip in my 2cents worth

I just recently started cycling my new 2ft(30gallon) tank with a 10gallon sump 3days ago. good that u have a sump, it helps

Already added 8.5kg of liverock inside and also market prawn. Water a bit cloudy(izzit normal?) normally it wil clear up after 1 day

On my skimmer(weipro 2011) 2days ago but its still not skimming anything at the monment. Using a sobo4000 pump(2000liter/hr) to power the skimmer. shouldn't have any problem with this pump, how are the bubbles?

Should i wait a little longer or should i try to adjust the water outlet flow to raise the buble level? Thank in advance :)yes you would need to adjust the outflow valve until it skims to your liking.. be careful though, as weipro valve is quite sensitive, so minute adjustments might cause it to overflow the collection cup, so monitor carefully.."

    cheers, happy reefing!

Thanks very much for the fast reply bro(ok no sifu here)Will go back later and check out. If can will upload the picture of the bubbles also. Btw i heard this skimmer need time to break the oil layer(izzit true?) :ThanxSmiley: . Cheers

  11. Its time for me to say goodbye to my old 1.5ft tank and say hello to my new 2ft(24x16x20") tank with a 1.8ft sump .

Its my first time dealing with a sump so have some s regarding it. Hope the gurus will advise.

My sump is devided into 3compartment. 1st is for the skimmer and water from overflow box. The 2nd is for filter media. The third is for return pump and chiller pump. Is this

sequence ok. Can and where can i put some chateo to reduce NO3?

Also the filter media, what is the reccomended ones. Really hope to have a good and cost effective filtration. Would also appreciate if can show the pic of the sump just to learn a bit.

    My tank specs is

    Ocean Free 24x16x20

    Sump(3 compartments)

    Skimmer(weipro 2011)

    resun 400 wavemaker

    chiller resun CL650

Is this setup ok for most LPS corals? Also since this is a new setup, just wanna ask izzit

ok to introduce np bio pellets straight away. Coz really want to reduce no3 and po4. :thanks:

  12. Hi All,

I have a 1.5ft tank powered by a eheim 2213 canister filter. The filter has been running almost a month.

So i think its time for me to clean it a change the carbon media inside. My problem is i do not know

how to do it.I had a very hard time in getting the filter to work when i first bought it and it was really

messy coz i had to use my mouth to manually suck out the air tfrom the filter outlet so that it will start to run(i did fill up the filter with water from tank initially

but the airlock thing is a really problem). So my question is if i off the filter, clean and on back will i still need to manually repeat the manual siphon

process?? Or is there any link to teach me how to step by step to do cleaning on this filter. Thanks to all gurus in advance
