  1. September bro... but I am afraid it will only be live rock this time. I'll go back up in February and come back with some gems once the tank has stablised a bit :-)

Might even see some acans frags/colonies that collectors have tossed away... no one wants them down hereĀ

OI Bring me back something nice will ya ;)

Acans will do I guess, if you have to find a filler coral.

  2. Bombers point is that he is giving his corals enough light to reach photoinhibition. Which for him thats 2hrs of MH + all the VHO he uses.

If you have different lights & a different tank, you will need to work out your own times for coral photoinhibition.

A coral doesnt need to recieve any more light once its reached that point so if you burn you MH for 5hrs longer than that you (Acording to him/others) are just wasting electricity.

Thats what I understood from the discussion anyway.

  3. A recent study of my DSB has also yielded evidence that it has become rather devoid of microlife, a crucial factor in the effectiveness of a DSB.

AT IMO this is the major downfall with a DSB, the need to reseed. I see reseeding as renewing or cleaning of the filter.

Could you imagine how dirty a Carbon filter or skimmer would be if it wasnt changed or cleaned in 5 years? I couldnt see either working at all after 5 months even.

We put a lot of effort into cleaning every other part of a tank, why should a DSB any different? It is a living filter that still needs maintenance.

    Dan.
