  1. I dropped the salinity level to 1012 and surprisingly an hour later, it's swimming around. The lower density probably makes it easier for him to 'breath' n reduces the stress....I think.

U r probably rite - I m not adding any medication now given his weak state. The last time I did that to a Racoon, it died a few hours later.

Will probably monitor over the next few days, with regular partial water changes and hope for the best. :thanks:

Angel died this morning . :( Can't explained it...one moment it was ok, swimming around and the next.......

Perhaps, it's the quarantine tank, hv to re-set up.

  2. that's what a lot of people say...there was a big discussion about this on RC recently but they removed the thread now. Actually I bought some Seios too and planning to use them with wavemaker but not anymore. In any case, its not recommended but never said "cannot". so you can try....(at your own risk) ;)

Thks for the inputs. I didn't c that thread but will take words for it. :)

  3. Better not to add any chemical treatment now as your goldie is currently weak.

Pardon me for saying this, whenever I see my fish laying on it's side and breathing like asthema attack. Most likely they're a goner.

  4. Hi, anyone can offer any solutions, pls help.

I bought a Golden Pymy Angel yesterday and placed it in a 66 ltr quarantine tank (plastic) with a canister filter I took from my main tank (I assume this should provide enuf biological and mechanical filter). The water is also aerated and lighted with a small PL light. Temp is about 27 degree Celcius.

I hvn't checked the parameters but assume it's ok since I took water - half from main tank and half newly mixed. I do not hv any rocks or sand in the quarantine tank except a few large PVC pipes.

It was perfectly healthy (at when I look at it) when I 1st bought it, BUT now after 24 hours, the angle is lying on its side and appears to be breathing heavily. I also noticed some white spots appearing.

Any help or suggestion wat I can do or wat's wrong with it. Shld I try hypo or ICK medicine? I m afraid at its current weak state, any treatment might just push it 'over the edge'.

    Thanks.

  8. Hi SRC Reefers,

Thanks for pouring in your experiences and advices.

Wonder whether Home-Fix sells grounding probe, which I can used for marine earthing purpose?

OK, will investigate and find out which is the leaking device. Suspect, it's the lighting...

Mantis - How do you change a 2-pin plug to a 3-pin plug when there's no 3rd earthing wire within the cable for devices with 2-pin plug?

Pardon me, I'm not so electrically savvy.

    Hi.... :)

For me, I did the 2pin to 3pin switch for my 1st chiller (Resun CL 280) and all my Ehiem pumps. Incidentally, the chiller was the one that caused the electrical outage in my case. At least for the devices I mentioned above, inside the cable insulation are three smaller wires ie Live wire (red or brown), Earth wire (Green or Green/Yellow) and Neutral wire (Black or Blue) - even if u just c a 2pin plug connected.

Just cut the cable near where the two-pin plug is and u will see the three wires (coloured as described above) inside. Then simply buy a three-pin plug and connect accordingly.

BUT a word of caution - be very careful that u do not connect the wrong wires to the wrong points in the plug. As in all electrical works, be careful that know what u are doing or get someone who knows to do it for u. :peace:

  9. Hi, I had that problem once and it was caused by one of the devices which had no 'earth' connection - this is the device with two pins plug instead of three pins that hv 'earth, live and neutral' wirings. I subsequently changed the two pins plug to a three pins plug and the problem was solved.

If I were u, I would start my trouble-shooting with those devices u hv, which hv two pins plugs (eg pumps, chiller).

Oh yes, 'cut or damage electrical cable' like one of the bros mentioned here, is also another possibilities. Just the other day I find out that the insulating rubber of my Tunze cable has been slightly scrapped off by the edge of the tank hood - do u guys realise that the edges of new tank hoods even if they are made of wood, can be very sharp.

    :)

  10. Hey bros,

I need to ask if anyone has kept a blue tang successfully for a year or so and WITHOUT once getting ich?

Why did I ask? Cause I am doing a survey to determine the following:

Seems like there are two school of thought concerning ich infestation:

    1) One group says that tank will always have ich... no matter what you do to nuke them... so even if you quarantine & copper treat your fish (as what I am starting to do now)... u still get it....

    2) Another group believes that it is possible to have an ich free tank, since iches are essentially a form of invetebrates and they need to be INTRODUCED into the tank for it to multiply... so with proper quarantine and copper treatment established for new fishes, it is possible to have an ich free tank...

So guys please share with me ur experience on keeping blue tangs... if 1st theory one is true, then I will stay away from "ich king" fishes such as PBT, BT or PT.... If 2nd theory is right, then based on what I am doing now... setting up quarantine and copper treat, left my tank fallow for two months... Still possible to get a blue tang?

BTW, today, I went to one LFS (uncle ah pek neighbourhood one) who tried to sell me his blue tang for $4!!!!:blink: Best part if is totally covered in iches... he say that ich is part of the "ecosystem" and all blue tangs will definitely have them...:D:D He also advise me against copper treating fishes because the fish can go mental and die...:D

The following link might serve to answer your questions. The link was posted by one of the bros here. I find it very informative on ICK and it also tackles the question - Is ICK always present in our aquaria? :)

    MarineICK

On keeping the Blue Tang, I had one for awhile and it developed ICK and died shortly after........that was before I read the above link ;)

  12. Hi All,

I just upgraded my lights and I hv a Jebo 3ft MH for sale. It's 1x150w (20K) + 2x21w PL with individual switches. Used for less than 2 months, hv receipt and it's like new. The plus points why you shld consider this set are : :)

    a. its the new Jebo version with electronic balast.

    b. very light in weigth.

    c. produces very natural shimmering lights

    d. finally thinking of switching to MH from (say) PL or T5 ;)

    e. at a discount price u get something which is as good as new

Purchased price at $378 on 6 Feb 05. Asking $300. Negotiable but a good sense of sensibility would be appreciated since its less than 2 mths old. :)

    Upz :)

  13. My fishes keep having whitespot and slowly dying. Wat should i do? should i feed them garlic or get a UV twister light

Bro, I hv almost similar problem with u. Recently I moved from a 3 ft to a bigger and deeper 4ft tank. Although I used back the LR (lots of it) and some of the old sands with good bacteria, the water parameter must hv deteriorated badly as I also got white spot problems in the new tank. After I introduced a powder blue tang, the fish developed whitespots and spread to the others within a few days.

Now, my Asfur, yellow tang and flame angel - which I hv for as long as 1 year - all 'went up lorry' (died) alreadi. I hv been treating tank with AquaPharm ProSeries CureIch for about a week now. My Racoon, blennies, damsel and clown seem to be fighting the ICK. One of the clown looks bad and I don't think going to make it. I understand I hv to continue treatment for at least three weeks. I also installed a UV. Hopefully, things get better for me....n u too. :)
