  1. Oh and im using LED lights from the ocean free nano space tank set. The corals are placed near the top of tank.
  2. Hi guys need some help here... I have bought a newly shipped GSP from a lfs here for about 5 days now...but all I see is a few polyps popping out with small extensions. My water parameters are: Ammonia and nitrites 0ppm Nitrates 10ppm pH 7.8 phosphates not tested. (no kit) Temperature 28 deg celcius Livestock 1 narcissus snail 1 GSP mat It is a new tank tt's cycled with cured rocks from an old tank after 3 weeks. I have no diatoms in my tank. My other questions are: 1. White hair like stuff on the mat and it comes with some green plants stuck to the purple base. Do I have to remove them? And how do I remove it? 2. White dots on the polyps. Normal or is it bleaching? 3. the middle part of mat is a lighter shade of purple. Is it bleaching? Pictures are attached Please help bros. This is my first proper coral I bought lol.
  3. Haha wow a very scientific answer...hehe...nice to learn something new!
  4. Bros, the water parameters for the past 4 days are as follows with the prawn rotting pretty quickly. I have live rocks, new sandbed with biohome media. Live rocks are from the crashed tank of about 1 month. Day 1 : Ammonia 0.5 Nitrite 0.25 Nitrate 5ppm Day 2 : Ammonia 0.5 Nitrite 0.25 Day 3 Ammonia 0.25 Nitrite 0.5 Day4 : Ammonia 0.25 Nitrite 0.5 Nitrate 40ppm So question: 1. I have a lot of nitrate buildup. Does it mean the cycling is done? 2. There is still ammonia and nitrite. Could it be that my biological filter has reached it max conversion rate and my prawn is too big a piece for the tank to break down?
  5. Went ahead and bought 300g of bio home, used about 100g of it plus filter wool on top. Added half finger sized prawn in. My first time using a prawn to cycle. So when should I take out the prawn? Or leave it in there till I register 0 ammonia? And how often should i change out the wool? Or should I just put biohome only? Cos I read and heard about destritus clogging on the biohome and will cause a lot of nitrate.
  6. haha found it...here's my new tank look... Also I had a narcisccus snail alive after the crash. Should I keep this little thing in the new tank?
  7. Man i do not know how to post pics under the reply tab!! lol
  8. Hi Bros, Just restarted my tank. Took everything out, filter media, sand, water, everything. Washed my tank, left the live rocks in the old tank water placed it into newly washed tank, fill in new sand of about 1/2 inches, mix water to abt 1.23 salinity, then pour in. This is the new look now. I intend to only keep corals and sexy shrimps, no more fish. Scared liao. Bros I now have 2 empty compartments originally meant to put in filter media + cartridge (the ocean free qianhu 16 litre tank) The previous filter cartridge and coral chips are all brown and disgusting. So what will be a good material to fill it in? More live rocks? (very small kinds or i break them myself) The pura complete will go in later. Thanks for any advice bros
  9. My tank was fully cycled and tested for 4 days before livestock... My initial guess was that maybe the broken off coral had died in the water and causing huge ammonia spike. 2 polyps had broken off during transportation of the clove coral. And there was no way to tell if it was alive or dead...... Or if not its the dead fish that started the chain reaction...
  10. Hi fellow reefers, After 1 month, my 4 gallon tank crashed after one of my fished died on me...the fish wasnt eating well and it crashed shortly after i introduced a coral my friend gave me... Learnt my lesson and gonna tank things reallyyyyy slow now... Right now I've removed the dead crabs and snails with the uber stinky coral with just my liverock and sand and filter still turned on. My question is, what do i do now if i wanna restart the tank again? Should I 'wash' the rocks and sand or should i just change out the water and let it cycle again? My sand bed is filled with nasty stuff i guess and do i need to remove my 1 inch sandbed? My current filter media is coral chips, Pura complete and some ceramic rings. Do I remove and wash the media? What other suggestions for filteration should I use? I have 2 compartments behind my tank to fill in media.
  11. Bros/Sis pls help ID this coral! Are these coral one coral or the flower looking coral is one and the bulb another?
  12. Hi bros, Recently i've accidently made a 'cloudy' salt mix as a chunk of salt fell into the distilled water instead of flowing nicely. As a result the salt mix was cloudy with white precipitate. Can I know if this salt mix can still be used? I dont mind it being cloudy for a while if the next 2-3 water change can bring the clarity up. The main question is if the water is still suitable for the corals and inhabitants...
  13. hmm thanks for your advice bros! I just got a 'free' coral form my friend. And i have not even managed to ID it yet haha...
  14. Oh and what kind of coral is this? And is the reddish color on the bulbs normals or is it 'bleeding'? And the polyps seem to have broken segments
  15. Hi Bros, I got this coral from a friend who gave it to me...It was initially brown with flower-liked polyps with bulbs. I brought it back and after acclimatizing it for 2 hours in the bag, I placed it into my tank. My parameters are all fine, 0 nitrites and ammonia, and 5 ppm nitrates with 7.8 pH. When I saw it in the bag, the polyps are all shrunken up and closed. Now its opened up but i realise the tips are turning whitish as shown on the pic below. Also the head of the 'bulbs' are showing white tips too. Is this normal for a new coral in a tank or is my coral dying? please help!!
  16. I've seen those flat looking ones. And there are those with white dots on them. Are those as hardy?
  17. Hi Bros, Im new to this hobby and I have recently set up my tank for about a month plus. I've been monitoring the parameters and all's well with water changes to keep the nitrates down. I am currently trying a 4 gallon pico tank with 2kg of live rocks and sandbed. My livestocks now are 1 yellowtail damsel (about 1 1/2 inches), 1 bumblebee snail, 1 narcissus snail, 1 turbo snail, 1 orange striped hermit crab. I am now thinking of adding my first coral to 'test' my system if its good enough to maintain a coral. Tank temperature is between 28-29 degrees. I've read somewhere that tt's the natural sea temperature that corals live in so i've not used any chiller and only a cooling fan during afternoons if i feel that the temperature is going to be hot. So bros what are a good suggestion for a new soft coral?
  18. So bro soft corals meaning Zoas, Mushrooms, Palys, Polys and is pink pom pom included?
  19. Hi Bros, Anyone tried growing corals without chillers or fans with success? If yes what are the species that can tolerate such temperatures? Thankszzzz....
  20. Hi Bros, Just a quick and curious question is there a way to grow some corals at room temperature? And if I do use a fan is it alright to only switch it on for about 12 hours a day? Are there other non-electrical alternatives to cool my little 4 gallon tank? Would like putting in a bottle of frozen water do well?
  21. Hi guys, I am new to the hobby and I have started making my first batch of sea water using tropic marin salt. I bought a cheap hydrometer ($6) china brand that measures sg and salinity at 25oC However the distilled water I use is at room temperature (29 degrees). I read up and they said that specific gravity(sg) changes with different temperature. My question is if I mix the water at 290 C and the hydrometer measures sg at 250C. What sg level should I aim for if I am mixing the water at room temperature assuming I want actual sg of 1.024 at 29oC? (I am still in the process of cycling so I am not maintaining the temperature. Now my tank reads 1.019 sg at 290C using the hydrometer at 250C.
  22. Haha topping up sounds simple enough...Yeah need to get that fan. As for water changes, how's your schedule like?
  23. Another question. So about the super high nitrate content, I'll do a large water change after its fully cycled or every week? The nitrate content is so high now that i think my API test kit will be unable to read anything higher than my current level. Then how do I know if the tank has cycled completely? Another silly question. Does cycling means I have to switch on my filter 24 hrs?
  24. Bro I intend to keep prolly just one clown or a pair of gobies. Athier, Regarding the temperature, will a hang on fan be enough? I also read somewhere that there is a 'mini chiller'. Any idea where to get those?
  25. Sorry and thanks to any bro(or sis) that are willing to enlighten me!
