  1. Let me get this straight...meaning that the laundry was being done while you were at work... :blink: And it tripped because the machine was giving trouble already? It's sad what happened but have your livestock recovered since?

    The washing was do ok when I left the house. :(

    I have already fished out the dead but the rest of the livestocks are recovering. :) They were out "welcoming me" when I approached with their breakfast this morning. ;)

    Hope that all goes well. Today, is long day and I really hope that all is well at home. ;)

  2. Hi guys,

    Being a working guy, I left my laundry in the washing machine while I am working so that by the time I am back the laundry will be washed.

    But yesterday was a nightmare. I went home after a hard day's work and when I reached my carpark I noticed sometime diffrerent, I did not see any familiar blue light coming from my living room window. When I opened, the door, all I saw was darkness and what I hear was total silence, it then dawn on me that I had a power trip! :angry: I immediately reset my power supply and rush to my tank.

    This is the scence I saw:

    * Cleaner shrimps x 3 all dead

    * Pepper shrimps x 5 all dead

    * Xenia x 1 shrink and withered

    * Leather x 1 withered with figered blackened

    * Barbouri x 2 lying at the bottom of the tank gasping

    * Bubble tip Anemone x 1 shrinked and withered

    * All fish stock (1 x Maroon, 2 x purple firefish, 2 x firefish, 2 x high-finned banned goby, 1 x blue streak goby, 1 x yellow prawn goby) gave me the look that reduces me into a puddle! :pinch:

    With this incident it makes me very angry with the WM manufacturer, I always thought that being European made, it will be a better choice due to the integrity in the manufacturing process but I am very wrong. ( I only bought the machine for two years with 2-3 loads of washing per week). The best thing is that after one year the machine stopped at one of the cycle and I have to get the services person to rescue my laundry for $95!

    The reson of my writing this to to share with you guys my predicament and at the same time get some inputs on how I could have prevented this catastrophe. :cry:

    Please feel free to comments. :thanks:

  3. how do i prevent cyano from over-taking the sand bed ? Do not overfeed.

    Been observing some green, red colours on the sand bad but onli minimal. Shld i be worried ? Try to maintain stock & feed for the next few weeks and see what is the results.

    Must i add in calcium, strontium and trace elements in an FOWLR ? i have been adding these but is it realli necessary ? You should invest of test kets to see what your tank is deficient in before adding.

    For anemones to survive with intense lighting, how intense must it be ?? Currently my tank is small (30litres) with a 11 watts Blue and white lighting. Observes your anemone, it is moving around or shrinking? If not should be fine.

    My diatom bloom problem is over thanks to advise by bros here. But how often shld i feed my clowns? My percula clown keeps fighting with the smaller fire clown. Any way to prevent this ? Try not have unpair clowns in the same tank. Clown are terratorial and will defend its anemones to the death.

    With my tank capacity, how many fishes and invert shld i maintain ?

    Presently i have two clowns and two snails. Do you think i can keep another fish or perhaps an anemone if the conditions permit ? Will this disrupt the bio cycle within the tank rite now ? See above answers.

    :peace:

  4. hi guys

    just check whether any of you guys have your tank made by cr aquarium (coral reef aquarium manfacturer) with their advance biological filtration system.is it value for money to have your tank custom made by them.any experience from you guys here. :thanks:

    I am currently using the 2ft CR Aquarium with cabinet, the one that is on show. I was there Staurday morningt and was surprise that they are selling so much more expensive than what I paid for!!!!

    Don't aks me why like that but although I have a far better deal, it still leave a bad taste on my mouth.

    ;)

  5. I never tried aragonite milk.

    But in my opinion and personal experience, kalkwasser works well for me and many others (AT, morgan, rumor and lots more). We get tons of coralline growth (more than we like) and we dun need to spend tons of money to get it.

    So I guess the decision is quite obvious.

    However, adding some kind of calcium additive is always better than not adding any kind of calcium additive at all.

    Thanks bro. will look into Kalkwasser once I run out of Aragonite Milk.

    :D

  6. he is talking about coralline algae....the pink/red/purplish algae on the rocks and every damn thing else it can grow on.

    Dosing with kalkwasser has the same growth effects. You don't need expensive water to make it grow.

    If you really want it badly, get some scrapped coralline from some reefer's tank and pour into your tank to seed the growth.

    Adding strontium will boost it artificially too but in my opinion its totally a waste of money to do that. Kalk and time is all it needs.

    Dear Cookiemunster

    I started experiencing rapid growth after dosing Aragonite milk. Was wondering whether have you tried it before cuz might be considering switching to Le Kalk if all figures works out fine (Cheaper). Would appreciate your honest opinion.

    Dear Woonming, care to comment too?

    :thanks::bow::bow::bow:

  7. Bro, get Yuma & Florida lah. I only managed to get the Yumas for Par*d#z R##f at a very good price, now they dun have liao if I know I will get the Florida from them as well. I feel that although the place looks ex but sometimes their prices is very competitive.

    If you see any Florida let me know OK.

  8. Dear bro,

    Mushroom belongs to the corallimorphs (false coral) order. They will grow into attractive colonies under bright illumination while in depth or low intensity lighting they live in solitarity.

    Pollyps belongs to the order of Zoanthids unlike corallimorphs, zoanthids occurs in a wide arrays of colours. However they are quitetoxic and aggressive towards other corals.

    Both Zoanthids & Corallimorphs get majority of the nutrition through lightings although they do benefits from occasional direct feeding or indirect such as leftovers & filter feeding.

    Anemone besides needing intense lighting, it need to be fed periodically as well.

    I suggest you take a pix of your coral and have it Id so that you can find out what is it basic husbandry. Cuz even if yours is a mushy you still need to know what species so that you will be able to cater to its needs.

    For me, I will always make it a point to research before buying and by the time I purchase, I will already have its common names & scientific names plus it basic husbandry at the tip of my tongue.

    Hope this help.

  9. My green coraline is growing under my 2 x 55w lights, while the darker region of my tank the pink and purple ones are thriving... Dont know why leh. I tried take one maroon and purple coarline encrusted rock and place it under my lights. Now its starting to show signs of green coraline growth.. :blink:

    It is true cuz they will suffer light shock which causes them to bleached. In fact, coral farmers do recommend coralines to be acclimatize slowly to the new environment by covering them with mesh in order to filter off direct lightings and slowly removing the mesh as time goes by. (read it froma coral propagation book) :upsidedown:

  10. hi,

    do not know what is chemical filtration such as Rowaphros. Perhaps someone could fill me up on that ?

    Anyhow, how do i make my mushrooms grow and multiply.

    Are polys, mushroom? Do not need to feed them like LPS OR SPS issit ? Just proper lighting required issit ?

    thanks ! :lol:

    Rowaphros is used to absorb Phrosphates. It is available in most marine LFS. It is well recomended by the bros of this forum.

    I have used it and found that it is better than Seachem PhosGuard. However, due to the price I have been looking for other alternatives. Today, I was at Parad** R##f and I bought 0.5l of BioPhos from Edwin, he told me that it is comparable to Rowa but at a fraction of the price. Thus you might want to check it out.

    I also saw some beginners books that you may want to consider investing.

    Cheers, :eyebrow:

  11. Hi, if you are planning to have fish only, then you need not worry to much about lighting except that the illumination must be enough for you to see your fishes. :)

    However, if you intend to keep corals, then 15w is not sufficient. Atleast get 2 x 39w pl (1 white, 1 blue).

    Please note that coralines especially purple coralines do not require strong lightings as compared to the green coralines.

    Please take sometime to read the Pinned thread written by the lao chiao (Old Birds) very informative.

    :bow: My apologies. Type too fast and got all mixed up.

    Sorry. :peace:

  13. Hi I experience receeding Coraline Algae just after my cycling period but it has slowly recovered, I agree with what Clownfish has mentioned too.

    Just remember coraline take longer to grow, so be a little patience and I think they will grow back again.
