1. ya they dun have kh. Only Iodine,ca, mg, Sr & trace elements.

I remember all their items treat 200litres. Initially got ca n iodine at total$45, ca $20+ & iodine $10+. Later bought trace elements at $13 or $15. I like the trace elements, cheap n slow release seems good. But not sure how gd it really is or snake oil.

Issue is locally no agent. So the German guy in suit did say can order online but shipping expensive. However, each box is featherlight, so if it is really good, u order 1kg worth can probably last u 1 year. I dumped all 3 into my sump near to return as instructed. So gonna track the dissolving rate n whether any visible changes which I doubt.

As for biozym, the way u put it seems like snake oil liao. I bought the liquid form, multi nitri. I asked the promoter seawater got 3 bacteria product so which is for less water change. So she recommended this multi nitri. Actually I remember Microlift also got this bacteria thingy to attack fish wastes. I looked at the back of the bottle showed USA. The promoter told me China company got the formula n they are distributing to rainbow, their long time partner. 350ML at $18.

Not yet use. Am planning to autodose this daily.

Unfortunately can't make it for the dinner, any pics ?

    Thanks for sharing bro!

    Will post photos soon. ;)

  2. Yes, cheato does absorb nitrate in order to grow. However to work best, you need to trim them regularly so that they will continue to grow and therefore continue to absorb nitrate. Cheato that are overgrown will not absorb much nitrate as they are prevented from growing optimally.

  3. Managed to make it for the show at 3pm.

Got this slow release cubes n biozyms.

Ecotechmarine didn't come this time. Also never see Microlift products. Think the best booth is reefsystems n schuran. The water wheel bio pellets reactor is nice.

The plexiglas tank r really nice. Wonder how much is it n is it more resistant to scratches.

Another product is the seatest pen. It comes with our normal test kits but u use a testpen n submerged into the test vial n get the result.

Seems like result Up to 2decimal place.

The guy say use clear water to cal pen but normally dun need. Pen using 3 spectrum to test.

Littleburger, why your picture show AquaFim and Biozym and you never talk much about it??? You bought them?

    Anyway, here's what I found:

Biozym - I got a sample of its bacteria capsule but I am unable to google any information. The website should be www.biozym.org but apparently the hosting already lapse and thus no longer hosted. Was told that Rainbow is distributing it and some products already available.

Aquafim - www.aquafim.eu, spoke with the rep but he seems not very sure. He told me the Sea Koral only replenish Cal and Mg but not kH and we need to manually top up kH? I asked how much for the Sea Koral which can treat 80l to 250l? He said it about EU35! I say thank you and walk off. lol ;)

  4. Rare species perform unique roles in the way the world functions, claims new research, contradicting what was previously thought.

A study from a team of researchers at the University of Montpellier in France has discovered that rare species perform tasks that more common species can't.

Using data from three different ecosystems - coral reefs, tropical forests and alpine meadows - the researchers found that these unique functions are essential for maintaining balance within current ecosystems.

And if these rare species disappear, our ecosystems could fail - or struggle to rebuild in the event of a global disaster.

  5. Hi guys,

Just got news that Julian Sprung will be doing a talk on Nano Marine Tanks at Aquarama this Friday 3pm.

Julian Sprung is a writer on marine aquarium fishkeeping. He is an alumnus of the University of Florida where he studied zoology.
He has authored articles in aquarium hobby publications such as Freshwater And Marine Aquarium, Seascope, Advanced Aquarist Online, Aquarium Frontiers, Marine and Reef Aquarium USA, Practical Fishkeeping, Tropical Fish Hobbyist, and Coral. Sprung is one of the authors of The Reef Aquarium 3-volume book series (self-published), and is a frequent lecturer at reef aquarium hobby conventions and gatherings.
In 1991 Sprung, with fellow marine aquarium enthusiast Daniel Ramirez, co-founded the company Two Little Fishies, Inc., a manufacturer of marine aquarium supplements, media, and accessories.

For those who are interested or struggling with issues on your nano tank, this is the opportunity to seek help from the man himself personally.

    See you guys there. ;)

  6. Always look out for label that states aerobic and anaerobic bacteria. Also look for reliable manufacturers that provides detailed inform on their bacteria products either on the labels or on their websites.

Bacteria that I used with good results. Not in any particular order:

    • Microbacter 7
    • Prodibio
    • Pries
    • Fauna Marin
    • Microbe-lift Special Blend
  7. Using fan evaporation is no joke.. Need to top up 2 litre of DI water. Water level dropped below outlet water spray is terrible. Salinity also shoot sky high. Wonder whether it will help bring down temp if pump air with wood block like I see in some lFS. Salt spray can be contained with a tank cover. I know bubble will effect sps but lps should be ok right?

Adding woodstone will not reduce temperature significantly compared to fan as it is still using the theory of evaporation.

Another crude method is use ice, this method is more reliable. Just place water in water bottles and put in freezer, add iced bottle into tank and swop whenever the ice melted.

  8. In this part of the world where by our ambient temperature is 28 degree without heat load from pumps and lights. Thermo-Electric cooling is not efficient and realistic.

The only common TE cooling appliances found locally are mini fridges and mini wine cellars, this is because both appliances are insulated and once the internal temperature is reached, it takes several hours before the temperature equilibrate with the external temperature. Also because this does not have a heat load like a fish tank.

An aquarium is not insulated, is open and also have heat load thus TE cooling is not suitable. Because you will consume more electricity and yet cannot reach the desired temperature that a compressor chiller can.

Evaporative cooling (i.e. to use fan to blow across the water surface) works best in dry environment such as desert. Evaporation are humidity dependent. So if you room humidity starts to climbs, less evaporation will take place and therefore less heat remove. Evaporative cooling will also not work when there is limited air circulation.

For offices whereby aircon switches off after office hours, TE and Evaporative Cooling will not work efficiently. Your best bet is still compressor chillers.

If compressor cooling is not an option, you can use evaporative cooling and at the same time look into ways to increase air circulation within your office after aircon switches off and also stock livestocks that are able to handle larger margins of temperature fluctuation.

    Hope that helps.

  9. Hi all. Just arrived home saw my small tank water looks very cloudy. Checked n found out my chiller pump was off since 36 hours ago due to water change.
Damnnnnnnn...
50% sps have gone ......
Temperature is 33 degree!

Not mixing salt water to do wc.
How abt the temperature? Should I directly bring down to 27 or 26? Or I should bring down to 29 for 1 day and 2 days later then adjust to 26?

Still got some birdnest. Pocci. And chalice and zoas not fully die off yet.

Thanks in advance
Sorry to hear about your plight.

    All the best!

  10. Hi bro Gouldian,

i recalled my last visit (few weeks ago) they were still using AI SOL on their display tank.

Btw, long time no see.. still remember some many years back, we chiong pasir sir together? with some KL kakis .. haha

Oops, maybe I remember wrongly. Sorry, my bad.

Wow, that's quite long ago. Btw, we are organizing a dinner with Chingchai and some Thai reefers, care to join us? -
