  4. Hello fellow reefers!

I've recently started a 34L nano tank and I'm hoping to pick up a couple of tips from you guys. I was warned about how this hobby was a time and money suck. But one day out of nowhere, I ended up at Iwarna and bought an OF 34L IOS tank from Aunty. Now there's no turning back.

I've documented my progress. This is ultimately going to be a zoa tank.

DAY 1 - Live rocks (not very exciting).

    Tank1_zps6d86343a.jpg

Here's the scape. Very nicely done up by my patient bf.

I wanted to let it cycle for about a week before introducing livestock but I'm not as patient as I'd like to be.

    DAY 3 - Invertebrates, a clown and a wrasse.

    Tank3_zpsc5dbd03a.jpg

Wrapped up work and made a trip down to the only marine LFS (that I know of) open after "office hours". Bought a clownfish, a green wrasse, an RBTA, an urchin, cleaner shrimp and a 3-pack of sexy shrimp from Aquamarin. Threw in a starfish and hermit crab (originally from my bf's tank) for good measure too.

Here's a sexy shrimp party that the hermit crab crashed.

    DAY 4 - GSP wall

    Tank5_zpsab2db4cb.jpg

Got myself some GSP and BSI'd it at the back in hopes that it'll bloom into an unstoppable wall of green. Doesn't look very promising here. But I will remain optimistic.

DAY 7 - Operation zoa flowerbed

    Tank7_zps6e7877df.jpg

I decided it was time to pile in the livestock. Got myself some zoas, palys, acan, pulsing xenia, coco worm, clam, green octo coral and golden clove. Most of them here are from my bf's tank. Also, a trip down to LCK and the Pasir Ris farms can do wonders. I got a royal gramma, a couple of yumas and a one-dollar clown.

I'm working towards a zoa-saturated top tier. I'll post more pictures really soon.

  5. many

    hi all ,

anyone can enlighten on marine water change ? is there an alternative that only top up NSW once in a month or so ? is salt mix a solution ? I am no expert on this and would like some advise pls .tks

    Hi,
Ya,water change can be done monthly if u have low bioload.(less live stocks).
Once high the WC should be done regularly,

Depending on your tank's volume, your bioload & what livestock u are keeping inside. Purpose of water change or WC(in short) is to reduce NO3, PO4 & replenish important traces elements. Smaller tanks require more frequent WC due to NO3 & PO4 build up faster in terms of concentration compared to larger tanks (more volume of water) & WC for these smaller/nano are being conducted almost weekly(light bioload, FOWLR, soft corals) & every other few days (heavy bioload, corals, SPS). For larger tanks, 2ft & above, again depending on above for nanos, WC are being conducted, monthly, twice a month or weekly. It will be good to provide us with more info on your tank volume & what u intend to keep inside for us to provide more concise advices for u. Salt mixes are basically salts (dried crystal form) harvested from some oceans. Sea water is being dried up using modern technology & extra elements, are added, Ca, Mg or KH. Those with added elements sea salt are meant for reef tanks. For those without, they will be used in FOWLR or some less demanding soft corals. Sea water/ NSW will be in liquid form. Sea water are also taken from the ocean & go thro' filtration before been sold in plastic bags or containers to those who find it a hassle to mix sea salt with RO/DI water. However, sea water will contain benefical bacteria & nasty ones. For those using salt mix, benefical bacteria can be bought & added.

    many thanks for advise ..
