    Instant ocean reef crystals and plants/coral growth

    Anyone have comments on the use of ocean reef crystals and their suitability for coral growth and plant growth?using it at the moment and realise that plants like chaeto dont do well. I've been dosing iron to supplement and they do better. So just wondering if iron is missing from this salt mix. Anyone have any idea?

    3 dead nassarius, 4 dead Astraea, 1 dead unknown snail, a few dead stometella snail and a dead sand sifting starfish. Hammer coral and all zoas look like they are cringing and not opening.

    Story: I've been trying to increase the iron level in my tank because I suspected iron deficiency. Chaeto and macro algae all weren't growing, and anemone was bleaching.

    I've been dosing iron and iodine for a while now in small quantities well below recommended levels because I didn't have a test kit. My tank was ok

    Last week I bought a test kit so that I can do the dosing properly. I tested iron levels and they were 0. So I followed the recommended dosing level and dosed 3ml of iron to bring it to 0.1. Tested water the next day and the level rose to only 0.05 so I decided to put another 3ml. The level remained at 0.05. I didn't dose anymore after this. Green band for the test kit is 0.1.

    At the same time I also put 6 drops of iodine instead of my usual 4, and I also dosed AZNO3 for a few days before.

    Effects: The next few days my plants are growing really well, very dense now. But on the other hand the snails that I have all started surfacing from the sand or falling off the glass, dying a slow death. This was 7 days ago. Now all the snails are dead and the starfish. My new zoas all don't open at all, or open only halfway.

    I'm abit puzzled because I don't know what killed them, the Iron, iodine or azno3, or all 3 together. Especially since the dosing that i did was as per instructions on the bottle. And I didn't exceed the test kit limits. Sian.....

    Randall's pistol shrimp vs cleaner shrimp

    Hi all, anyone had any trouble with these two in the same tank? I just saw a national geographic vid of another kind of pistol shrimp sniping a cleaner shrimp. And just so happen I bought 1 of each today!

    Currently 1 cleaner shrimp in a 15G tank. Planned to add another cleaner shrimp and the pistol shrimp.
