  1. Hi bro, so far it has not. Did urs Attack corals? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Hi, I put it in the box for two weeks and started it on ghost shrimps. It's still on live ghost shrimps, and this is part 2 of the training. Will use dead shrimps next. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Hi guys! How's the year coming along for everyone? Before you know it, Christmas is coming and hopefully one new year's resolution has been achieved! Mine was to successfully keep SPS but I Guess there's no way to rush this. I'm still a distance away, but happy with how my tank has been coming along. Recently visited a few LFS and spent some more to beautify my tank and make my life easier. Added black sand and relocated my coral chips to the sump. Haha. The fish seem to like the change! Also, decided to get the lionfish I have always wanted to try! Training them to eat has been a huge challenge! Because of that I went to Petmart to get a 2ft Long algae scraper so I no need to put my hand inside and fish getting stung hahaha. Daniel (dpyz) says I siao. I couldn't agree more. Anyway I'm happy with how the lionfish has adapted to the feeding schedule and my fishes are ok with him being around too. Here's a picture of the lionfish! I also want to recommend the Prata that I tried at Serangoon north next to Pet Mart. Always freshly prepared, and it's fluffy and crispy all at once! Die die must try! 4. Hi everyone, how's everything going along in your reefing journey? At some point in our reefing, I'm sure we have come across this urge to 'get everything right' before adding new livestock. I like to think I've hit a little bit of that streak in my journey. I decided I cannot use tap water any longer as I have seen enough of the damage it can cause my tank (high phosphates resulting in algae growth that chokes out my corals and makes my scape look unsightly). So I decided to go for a DI unit. Thanks to my good Friend and ultra DIY king, the owner of The 4 Ft Wonder, Mr Daniel Poh, he helped me get all the parts necessary to run a DI unit, along with a 4 stage water purifier unit that is safe for drinking! [emoji1319][emoji1319][emoji1319] very rare to come across such a helpful person that will go the distance to help me achieve my reefing goals and balance my household needs. Am happy to say that my DI unit is up, and even set up by him! Here are some pics to share. TDS 0 readings already achieved! All my tank inhabitants are happy with a Low phosphate environment! 5. Hi everyone, thanks for continuing in this journey with me. Although I started this tank on 28 July 2016, I've been reefing since June 2014. There's been a lot to learn and I'm still feeling like I'm just scratching the surface. It feels like there's just so many ways to maintain the parameters in the tank it's hard to decide what to follow. However, have done a water test recently, and am happy with the way my Ca, KH and Mg have balanced out, but due to a change of rocks my bioload has gone up again. That is fine with me as I do not have that much corals at the moment, so I'll take my time to bring it down. Custom Tank by Aquarium Artist parameters are: Temperature: 26 Salinity: 1.025 Nitrate, NO3: 12ppm Alkalinity, KH: 8.5 dkh Calcium, Ca: 450 Phosphate, PO4: 0.52 Magnesium, Mg: 1,290 All these tests are done by Nyos except for my phosphates which are done using Hanna Checker. I'm preparing to send my water to Triton to get a test so as to understand my water better instead of having my corals die on me after a while. That is a step to take when home tests cannot identify what is the cause of death in your corals. Will send it to Iwarna for the test which costs 98 dollars. Here are some pics of my latest scape This is the front view. This was taken using a yellow filter. This wasn't. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Hmm I do dose coral food like reef roids, nutri core and intense by revoreef, and polyp enhancement A and B leh. Sofishticated Friend
  7. I have to pick my jaw up.. it dropped at pg 2... be right back. Sofishticated Friend
  8. Hi guys, here's video update of my tank. It has been a discouraging few weeks, as I have been experiencing die out of my hammers one after another, followed by my elegance as well. I found the reason to be most likely a bacterial infection which is on a rock I got from a reefer. I took out all my rockwork and replaced them with new ones bought from AM. Am happier with the new Scape too, as I can imagine how to fill it up slowly with SPS, acans and zoas. https://vimeo.com/187776464 Sofishticated Friend
  9. My Ca, KH and Mg values are not ideal yet. Need to readjust my dosing. Sofishticated Friend
  10. Aquarium Custom Tank by Aquarium Artist parameters are: Temperature: 26 Salinity: 1.025 Ammonia, NH4: 0 Nitrate, NO3: 5 Nitrite, NO2: 0 pH: 7.8 Alkalinity, KH: 125 Calcium, Ca: 470 Phosphate, PO4: 0.2 Magnesium, Mg: 1,290 for date: October 8, 2016 Sofishticated Friend
  11. Thanks guys for ur continued interest! Here's the latest addition of a purple tang bought from Iwarna! As of yesterday it was eating pellets and mysis. I think it eats the nori too. Hoping there will not be any ick manifesting soon! Sofishticated Friend
  12. I've used nsw to start before, and experienced a tank crash when I did wc with salt mix. I also heard from those who just stick to nsw all the way and had much success. My current set up I'm using salt mix right from the start. My experience is that this method is more stable. When I top up I'm using distilled water bought from NTUC which I add my salt mix to. This has helped prevent algae built up due to the excess silicates and phosphates from tap water. So I guess it depends on what u're gunning for. Find something that balances sustainable effort and risk of causing tank crash I guess. Sofishticated Friend
  13. Thanks guys for reading! Did another rescape this time. I enjoy slowly adding rockwork. That will help me appreciate the features of my Scape over a period of time. Here are some pics to share. Lately my focus is on getting my water right. Finding the right dosing frequency, reducing phosphates, and doing gradual water replacement method. Hoping it will make my investment in SPS more sustainable. This is what my rock work looks like now. Setting up various spaces for coral gardens to populate the rock. A closeup of my blastosimmus bought from Fresh n Marine, some say that is my favorite LFS. I don't deny it! Used a yellow filter to bring out the colors more. Happy that it works! Itchy hand went to buy blueberry sea fan. Now I need to dose iodine daily and also trace elements. Sigh. But happy with the look of the coral. Signing off with the signature onyx clown! Happy Reefing! Sofishticated Friend
  14. What an amazing zoas tank bro. Hope to be able to build something like yours. Sofishticated Friend
  15. Exciting but sound tedious bro! Sofishticated Friend
  16. I agree for the calcium test kit it does not change the color very significantly. I too had to do the test twice to be sure. Sofishticated Friend
  17. Thanks for the tips Daniel! How about the rest of the Shifus? Sofishticated Friend
  18. I have two Hanna checkers. One for alkalinity and one for phosphates. Once the reagents run out, you basically have a white elephant until you restock them. And the ones given in the kit actually cannot last you for long. That's the drawback for using a Hanna checker. These days I use the Nyos phosphates test kit to measure, and then put the solution into the Hanna checker to counter check. Haha. Sofishticated Friend
  19. I've finally managed to reduce my phosphates with rowaphos, but looking at long term solutions by using DI filters and maybe a phosban reactor to get it constantly under control. The question I have for the experienced ones here is, how do you start your sps collection? Before you eye that beautiful Millie and Valida, how do you know where to place it and what it is compatible with? Sofishticated Friend
  20. Haha u are really Dr evil leh so poisonous haha. But I am using one crossflow by Jebao and one Gyre. Kekekeke. Sofishticated Friend
  21. Aquarium Custom Tank by Aquarium Artist parameters are: Temperature: 26 Salinity: 1.025 Ammonia, NH4: 0 Nitrate, NO3: 5 Nitrite, NO2: 0 Alkalinity, KH: 125 Calcium, Ca: 450 Phosphate, PO4: 1 Magnesium, Mg: 1,250 for date: September 18, 2016]
  22. Some of you were asking me if it was possible to have a functional sump with a two feet tank and cabinet. Thanks to the experts at Aquarium Artists, it is very possible. I like their design, which pushes the water is a U shape so that space is maximized. Here are some pictures as an example. A disclaimer, I have not made it neat, so please excuse all the messy wiring. This is what it looks like from the front. Basically the sump takes up the entire cabinet space. This is how it looks from the top. Top left is the downflow compartment, with the piping below water level so there is absolutely no bubbles to worry about. Water is filtered through with a 7" nylon sock with a 200 micron insert that I change every week. Top right is the skimmer / reactor compartment. Am using the Omega 'washing machine' reactor. Totally able to fit. I like it better than the usual long reactors cos they don't tumble as well. Bottom left is the special compartment that was designed with marinepure in mind. Fits one marinepure block nicely. I also left a bag of rowaphos there to deal with my impossible phosphates situation as I'm using tap water. Will move towards RODI water soon. Finally bottom right is the return pump compartment which is very spacious as you can see. I placed a bag of bacteria king there as well as an OF Hydra 30 there just to ensure the water is further purified. Gotta think of a better way to use this space though. Was thinking of doing an algae scrubber here although many people say it's very troublesome. Let me know what you think about how I can further improve! If you're wondering, I have a dosing pump but have yet to finish setting it up. Sofishticated Friend
