  2. Hi Soleh, I’m not very experienced with black bugs myself either but from my observations based on the acropora they had decimated, it seems the easiest telltale sign is when u realise the base of your acro starts to die and turn white. It may seem like a STN issue but then on close look u will notice these black little dots on the acro. They remain static black dots until u place the acro in a dip and suddenly all comes alive and start moving about.

For a clearer pic of how they look like so u may identify them, refer to the previous photo i uploaded.

    Hope this helps!

  3. This float switch doesn't 'float' so well anymore. No time to replace, it so I just added a piece of foam around it for the moment.

A nice touch of them providing plastic zippers. No fear of metals leaching into the water.

  4. Yes bro haha u already know... my acropora were all infected with aefw and also another dreaded pest... apparently known as black bugs

    1CAA4A30-7F1A-49DE-83CC-353D79E5A9BE.thumb.jpg.30d20d159a3760263083bb0727d642cb.jpg

These pests decimated my Acro week after week before I decided I had enough and removed all acropora from my tank. Fortunately I had the privilege of being able to hold all the surviving ones in a fellow Reefer friend’s QT and have been doing weekly dips to remove these pests.

The plan is to do this for about 5 weeks or so. The hope is that leaving my tank barren of acro would starve and kill these aefw and black bugs while the weekly dips would also kill any aefw eggs that were not removed and have hatched. Gotta start from scratch and suffer the losses from this weekly stressing.

Stark reminder on the importance of proper quarantine, inspection and dipping whenever introducing new corals into the tank.

  5. This is a flap on the clarisea to open up so it 'bypasses' the fleece.

A bit hard to take a pic of the connections now. But conceptually, this is the 'adapter' added to the end of the original pipe from display tank to adapt to a flexible hose that connects to the clarisea.

  6. I was using filter wool previously. That needed to be changed every 3 days before it clogged up.

The convenience of using the roller mat far outweighs the cost. The replacement fleece for the Clarisea is $35 (lasts 2-3 months).
Water is clear since it uses a 25 micron filter. Compared with wools or socks which are in the 200-400 micron pore size range.

I do let about 30% of water bypass the Clarisea simply because we don't need to over filter the system. This also helps extend the filter life. Over time, they will ultimately be picked up by the roller mat's 25 micron media. I feed my tank quite heavily with fresh prawn/fish meat daily. Nitrates are running around 5ppm which is still OK.

When you say bypass means you are using fittings to bypass or the clarisea can be bypass? Btw how do you connect your pvc overflow to the clarisea? Will be good if you can share some photos.
