  1. I intend to use this FR with RowaPhos. Anyone can advice what flow rate/pump to use? Thanks
  2. Don't know if I'm right, but I set mine at 26 deg C.
  3. No problem. I am also using a 2X1X1 tank and made the switch to a sump about a year ago. The only trouble I had was finding the overflow box (I did not know about I-Box at that time). Ended up DIY my own overflow box. By the way, my sump is a 1.5X1X1. It's a Five Plan tank that I put partitions in. No big deal. The advantage of a sump is so much that I wondered why I did not do it earlier! It would be best if you can get your tank drilled for the drain to the sump. Then don't have to worry about syphon break. If not, get the I-Box.
  4. I'm not sure your tank-to-sump system will work. I guess it have to depend on how you intend to do it. If there is a hole drilled through the tank for the the drain pipes, it should be OK. However, if you are using a syphon method of drawing water to the sump, you will have to use an overflow box concept. Do a search here, there;s a lot of discussion about this here.
  5. Hi LinkinPark, Does Ikea sell just one piece by itself? or must buy like a cabinet? Can feedback on cost?
  6. Eheim. Performance/price is hard to beat.
  7. I managed to find one at Cold Storage.
  8. chselee, great job. Can I ask a couple of questions to understand more? 1. Will the heat generated from the lamps cause the acrylic to melt? What's the thickness of the acrylic? 2. I can see only one ballast. Can this ballst handle 4 lamps? or is there another ballast somewhere? 3. Is this Elbiru ballast rated for use with T5 HO tubes? From my understanding, not all e-ballast can drive T5 properly. In fact, so far I'm only aware of an Osram model and another brand recommended by Dr Evil. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying normal e-ballast cannot be used with T5 HO tube. It's just that you might not be using the tubes to its full potential. In any case, this point is moot if the Elbiru is meant for T5 HO tubes! Regards
  9. Hi, Can PM price and details of the equipment? Thanks
  10. Hi chselee, Can PM where you got the reflector? and the cost? Thanks
  11. I use normal glass cleaning fluid (Kiwi Kleen Glass) with a paper towel. No problem and glass very clear.
  12. You can do a search on the net to find the formular to calculate the needed pipe size for the flow rate of your pump. However, IMHO, you should oversize the overflow. After all, if the overflow tube diameter is too big, it is not a problem as the overflow is controlled by your pump return flow. A diameter of 1.5 inches should be sufficient. Also, the hole in the overflow is not the pipe size. It should be silghtly bigger. It should be the size of the union for that pipe diameter. Hope this is helpfull. By the way, are you doing the drilling yourself? Care to share how to do it? Regards.
  13. Thanks for the feedback. Where do you go to get your T5 tubes? The price is very tempting
  14. I stand corrected. You're right! T5 cost is slightly more the PL, but if more efficient and less heat than PL, still win-win. I might try it out and see if it is really better than PL.
  15. Are you saying that the intensity of a 24W T5 is greater than a 36W PL? If so, this really opens up a big opportunity since T5 runs cooler, uses less electricity than PL and initial cost is less!! Looks like win-win!
  16. I've not actually seen T5 in action, but from the wattage, the seem to be lower than PL. For example, a two foot PL is 36W vs a two foot T5 at 24W. Or is there something else I missed? What T5 are you going to get?
  17. I'm currently using 2 X 36 watt PL tubes (10000K & Actinic) on my 15 gal nano tank. The tank has two clowns, some mushrooms, an anemony and a colony of sun polyps. Recently, one of the ballast shorted, making this lamp less effective. Now, there are a few possibilities I could go for. 1. Mod the present lamp with an electronic ballast. Might not look the prettiest, but it is the cheapest option. 2. Change to a T5 HO lamp (2X24W). Price wise is OK, but output might not be good enough. 3. Change to a 75W MH. Should have enough output, but I'm not sure how hot it will get. Vicl*** has a good deal, but theirs has no stand. Anybody has dealings with them before? How are their products? Can someone explain the terminology of MH? SE? DE? etc. Which is better 10KK or 20KK lamps? Or should I change to a 150W MH? Decisions, decisions, decisions.... What do you guys think? Which should I go for? Regards
  18. Should be. According to the condition on the back, can be used for any of their products.
  19. If anyone is planning a holiday before the end of the year, I've got a deal for you!! I have a Dynasty Travel Voucher worth $1000 that I would not be able to use. Make me a reasonable offer and it's yours. The expire date for this voucher is 26 Dec 2004. Drop me a PM if interested.
  20. Keep us informed!! I'm also thinking of DIYing a set as my present light (2X36W PL) is not working that well.
  21. Thanks for the offer. I've seen those clips before, but was not sure if they can withstand the heat. I suspect that they will become brittle and break after some usage.
  22. Fuel - I've never used Golden Pearls before, but I understand they are powder like or similar to small grains of fish food. So how do you prevent them from floating away?
  23. I'm thinking of DIYing an integrated lighting system using two 36W PL Tubes, Electronic Ballast and moonlight (via LED). However, I can't seem to find it in Sim Lim or the hardware shop I normally visit. Can anyone help? Regards
  24. Hi All, Need your advice on how, what and when to feed these polyps. The LFS guy said just to add Coralife Invertebrate Smorgasbord (or similar) 2 or 3 times a week into the tank to feed the corals. Is he right? Regards
