  1. My tank so far has been in ammonia spike for about 5 days now .

Sunday I had a 75% water change - live water

Added on new bag of activated charcoal .

With ammonia 0.25ppm since the start of the ammonia spike till today .

And today I’m intending to change another 75% of water using live water as well .

Will this big changes helps to get rid of my ammonia ?

Or I’ll still have to change it over the days .

Btw I’m using api saltwater test kit

And heard a lot reviews saying it gives wrong reading for ammonia .

    I’m at loss

Hi at least yours manage to work good for half a year .
It’s been 5 days and my skimmer is still not foaming all the time .
Only foam twice so far and I’m really upset of this skimmer .
Not too sure , if it’s not doing its job and now my ammonia is 0.25ppm .
    Trying to be patience though

  3. Got the same issue with Nitrate, was standing at 50ppm and 50% water change brought down for few days and up again, finally decided to remove the substrate and leave the tank bare bottom, and did 80 % water change, nitrate now has been stabil at 0ppm for 6weeks.

Thanks for ur experience , my nitrate now is at 0ppm as for measure last night .

It has been up and down since then , but never exceed to over 20ppm .

  4. Hi bro, what’s ur salinity. If it’s already at 1.024-.1026 range I think it’s ok. 8 scoops of salt at one go can be too much. As mentioned by bro soggycookies. Ur PH is fine. Any change you want to make must be small and not drastic change. Btw, what test kits are u using. I will encourage you use Red Sea, NYOS or salifert. Of course if Budget is not an issue, Hanna will be best lol

I’m using api saltwater test kit , seen a number of ppl using it and gave good review .
My salinity is at 1.026 .

  5. I was having problems 2 days ago with nitrate @80ppm .

After changing of 30% water , it was at 40ppm

I went ahead to buy , phos - zorb ( a media that removes phosphates .)

& nitra - zorb ( media to remove aquarium toxins , such as ammonia , nitrite & nitrate . )

Re adjusting of my redstarfish skimmer .

And let it run over a day .

    Nitrate now @ 0ppm .

    Nitrite now @ 0ppm

    Ammonia @ 0ppm

    high range ph @ 7.8 - 8.0

    I have corals in my tank and I know it’s important to have a level of 8.2 - 8.5 ph , but ever since I added phos-zorb & nitra-zorb . My ph was originally at 9.0 , and now at 7.8 - 8.0

It’s kind of a huge different and I’m afraid my corals won’t be healthy . Any recommendations ?

I tried adding Red Sea salt , to no advantage .

More than 8 table spoon of salt was added and my corals had a huge shock , they had slime over them .

I’m new to this hobby and wish to know more on how to maintain my PH level .

  6. Your tank looks familiar. Lol Reefmax? I think the skimmer is ok. How long have u been using the red bag(phospate) remover and carbon.

If ur load is heavy. U may have to Change every 2 months or even shorter. It may do more harm than good.
