  1. hi ian,

i won't be diying any for sale. it looks ok in the photos, but fugly in real life....:P

anyway, its really not difficult to modify. if you like, i can walk you through the items and steps during a free weekend.

but you're buying kopi though

on a different note, i need some help from all fellow reefers here to look out for test caps. i can't find any for 1.5" pvc pipings. if we manage to get some, it'll be a lot easier to modify these things.

look like this (shamelessly taken off BullDZR thread on rc)

  2. i bought the carbon fibre rod and propellors from a hobby/motorcycle shop at kelantan lane.

    address is 29 Kelantan Lane Singapore 208648 Tel : 6297 0656

1.5" pvc pipes can be bought from almost any hardware shops.

let me know if you have any questions. i will try to help if i can.

  3. hi copperband,

actually, i posted the end product here without testing for efficiency. main reason is because im in the process of making a new tank, and my old tank (1.5ft cube) is much to small to test something like this.

it works great in my wash basin though....hehehe

anyway, i had some problems looking for a 1.25" propellor. ended up getting 1" & 1.5".

i then made another housing that can fit the 1.5" propellor. but the maxijet 400 seems to have some problems spinning the blade. i need to test it more in order to determine if its not powerful enough or if the diy housing is faulty.

  4. and finally, the housing.

its not difficult to drill the holes if you use a smaller drill bit first before moving on to a bigger sized bit.

the dark gray band on the bottom is actually cut from another pipe with larger internal diameter and superglued onto the 1.5" pvc pipe, since the 1.5" pvc pipe is slightly too small to fit the maxijet holder.

not sure why, maybe the pipes are different in usa.

  5. its not difficult to do actually. just follow the steps and refer to the pictures, plus a bit of sawing and cursing and bleeding.... :P

only tricky part was to get the proper sized carbon fibre rods and propellors.

carbon fibre rod together with original stainless steel shaft

  6. Hi bro tayhonglee...the polar company doesnt sell the empty bottle...even if you buy from him thoose filled up ones...they expect thoose empty bottles back...

yeah, therein lies me headache. :( i have no idea where to source for even 1 bottle. hopefully someone here has one dusty bottle hidden in a storeroom somewhere, or i can buy from some company.

  7. that's a pity. most aro tanks i have seen are bare bottom with almost no decorations of any type....seems like strong flow at the bottom will stir up aro crap easily and heavy skimming can clear the crap out real quick. looks to be much better and easier than the complicated filter pools normally used.

i will try to post pictures later of the tank he has bought. its a fibre glass tank with one glass viewing panel, about 8ft X 4ft X 4ft.

  8. hi guys,

im looking for some information on whether skimmers work well in fresh water tanks. i did a search but can't find any information.

can anyone point out any links or provide any info? my friend is trying to set up a very heavily stocked aro tank.

    thanks!

    henry

  9. bro, mushrooms are damn tough. a few months back, i soaked my live rocks which i got from another reefer here in fresh water for an hour and the mushrooms survived (i didn't know they were there). pods and worms all kong ka kiao and floating, except for the mushies.

im quite sure a short dip in lugol and freshwater wont kill them.

  10. mine still looking good so far. no chips or scratches. actually thats the first case that i read about where chipping occured.

but its good reading anyway for anyone who is considering using diamant for their tanks.
