  1. I post as another satisfied user of a similar product that has recently been reviewed, the RM calcium reactor.

    Intro

Setting up a calcium reactor system, admittedly, has been the most expensive part of this hobby. In addition to the main unit, a CO2 cylinder, a regulator and plenty of media are needed for the most basic setup like mine. However, the benefits of running one, especially for a big or heavily stocked tank easily justify its cost. I no longer have to spend every 3 evenings premixing and decanting kalkwasser, dosing trace elements, buffer and other additives, or worry about ionic imbalance and skin contact with these chemical irritants, etc, etc. :cry2:

And so, 2 weeks after I confirmed my order, Joe arrived at my doorstep to do the installation. He gave a clear explanation for operating his product and gladly answered my queries on reefkeeping. This is excellent service which I commend, but I always thought a product manual with diagrams and useful troubleshooting tips will certainly come in useful. :phone:

  2. i was thinking...

instead of buying a UPS which is 1. costly 2. need to buy airpumps 3. cannot last long. can we?

get an O2 tank with fail-open solenoid. in then event when power supply cuts or MCB/ELCB trips , solenoid valve opens and O2 is released into the tank. a few airstones will give good spread of fine bubbles to better oxygenate the water. i estimate this could run for days. just a suggestion.

i didn't bother to try out cos there's always somebody at home. :)

  3. who got a shrimp trap that i can borrow? i'm not good at making one. the supposedly "reef safe" cleaner shrimp in my tank is wreaking havoc again.

once again picking at my hammer. the last time it happened i thought its becos the coral is infected or dying. but 2 wks later after some tentacles regrew, i saw the shrimp picking at them yesterday. this time can confirm its not hammer friendly.

    thanks.

  4. I belif the last compartment water will flow back to center compartment

if the return pump not working.

Cos the water level once over the wall of the two compartment,

the water will flow to the low side rite??

    Correct me if I'm wrong!

i agree with oceandeep, but i probably cannot visualise the problem well. but if u're worried abt the pump running dry in the centre compartment, how abt putting an inverted U tube connecting the centre and the last compartment. if yours is a powerful pump, use a fat tube. PVC pipe with 2 elbows also can. force out the air inside the U tube :)

  5. this is something i found very useful. no regrets despite burning a hole in my pocket. could never raise my kh above 8 no matter how much bicarb i used.

after running it for a week, my parameters all fall in range. :)

got 2 additional add-ons but not enough media to fill it. :)

  6. nice tank bro! you got lots of nice corals too, especially the green pbrain coral on the sandbed, veyr nice colour... :P

thanks bro, i'm still pretty much a newcomer to this hobby. tank of this size, not confident if i can handle if something crops up. :)

  7. Wow! Nice looking tank you've got there Rocky! It's a divider tank right? ;)

Is that a macro ph controller I see? :P

    thanks bro.

thats the tiny ocean combo ph monitor and thermometer from bio ocean. its advertised in the sponsor's forum, v good deal. i like it cos can read off at night with the illuminated LED. and better still numbers are big.

temp readings impt cos i'm using a resun 650, which may not be v reliable. but for time being it's fine, chiller can cool to 26.9, and is placed in the kitchen.

  8. bro, ur new tank looks good and i can see some expensive equipment you have.

btw the red sea salfin tang is doing very well. . feeds on mysis, brine shimps, pellets, flakes, seaweed and prawn meat (which i used to feed my corals).

    thanks. :)

glad to hear that bro. fish looks nicer when fat....
