  1. Hi Ong, mine was totally wiped out, no cure at all. Just a few questions.

    a. How many fries were there in the standalone tank?

    b. Have you enrich your BBS and fed enough to your fries?

    c. Have you thoroughly fresh water dipped your BBS prior to feeding?

    d. In your opinion, is your filtration enough to cope. Have you check NH3 and replace water frequently?

    e. Maintain sg at about 1.020?

Sorry, this are the few things I am careful about.

Presently I am keeping 20 fries each 2 feet standalone tank, with big air sponge filter, with control sg at 1.020, with turf algae on 2'' sand bed, + infestation with amphipods and change 50% water weekly. Not forgetting to feed plenty of enriched-(after fresh water dip and wash) BBS. Young horses after 4 weeks may eat up to 1000 bbs/day.

    Prevention is the key....

  2. Its a small (length in the 'normal' posture not exceeding 6cm) yellow seahorse which I have kept for over half a year. Initially it lives in a 2ft tank in an air-conditioned room (25C) where it is fed mysis shrimps. Now it resides in a 2.5ft coral tank (29C) and it eats brine shrimp (cos I can't get the mysis shrimps anymore - seems to have disappeared - probably seasonal). I try to feed it ghost shrimp but I can't get the ones which are small enough for its mouth. I don't like to feed it brine shrimp but right now I have not much choice. I think I should start trying frozen mysis shrimp - anybody know where I can buy it?

You may be surprised at the high temp of its current tank - actually when I first got it, it was living in an environment with that kind of temp. Then I shifted it to my air-conditioned office, and now it is at my home.

I am planning to go away for about 7 to 10 days in May. But come to think of it, maybe I should postpone the trip and get it to eat frozen mysis shrimps first. Even then, I will still need someone to take care of it for me.

I am so please to know you. You shown so much passion for the horses - even to the rescheduling your vacation. I am sure Chinmo and many other fanatic agreed upon.

Drop me a line if you need help by then....... Cheer!

  3. Thanks brittlestar, but getting 2 girlfriends is out for me - I am already married. Secondly, my seahorse only eats live food. Thirdly, my next vacation will be 7 days or more. I can't let my seahorse starve.

Chinmo bro, which seaside do you catch the mysis from? Will really appreciate if you can enlighten me on the location and method to catch them.

    Hi there,

Tell me more about your seahorses, what she eat, temp of water, when and how long you be away.

  4. Hi chinmo,

Appreciate your effort, brighten up the forum :yeah: . Very tempting but no more space for me already.... :( Greatest fun and joy come from seeing them breed and taking care of the fries.....making it thru. Wishing you more success. We may meet you there @ ######.

    cheer :D

  5. Hi chinmo,

Use a 6mm tubing, target the pods and siphon into a small container.

Alternatively try sea monkey now. Enrich about 50s in small mug for 1 hours at least with Zoecon & spirolina diluted. Feed and repeat twice daily. Can reuse enrichment juice several time. You may also do it in the frig thus juice and monkeys can last longer.

Zoecon should be your training weapon when shifting to frozen mysis.

  6. Had a brood 1 day ago about 150. Expecting 30% successful rate. Would like to let go some ( de-stress), but buyer must be well prepared such as tank well cycled, provide enriched BBS with HUFA and Sprinolina etc,. Full commitment is needed for potential buyer (Already have 1), and I would have to be selective. Any?
