  2. After searching the web, I find that some hermit crab species will regularly eat Cyanobacteria species on an assured basis. Species like Dwarf Zebra Hermit Crab, Scarlet Reef Hermit Crab, sometimes called the Red Reef Hermit Crab or Electric Blue Hermit Crabs. Anyone has these hermit crab species? Are they eat cyano? Are these species available in local LFS?
  3. I have an idea to control the speading of cyano in the main tank but don't know it is workable? That is use cyano in refugium to control cyano in main tank! Basically, I let the cyano speading on a big rock in the refugium. So it will compete for nutrient from cyano in the main tank. The rock full of cyano will be take out and wash away the cyano as a nutrient export. So we can save the money from buying expensive phosphate remover! Any comment on this method!
  4. I understand that most of the snails don't eat cyano. But is it really that we can't find any type of snail or other invert that get rid of cyano. BTW, is sea cucumber or any sand-shifting goby works? Pls share your experience!
  5. I just add 1 inch grade 1 sand on top of the ugly sand bed since the pure white sand bed gives a very pleasant look. However, the microalgae will grow fast on the sand and the sand bed will turn ugly brown and green in very short time. Again, my snail will only eat the algae grow on live rock and glass and I hardly see them working on sand bed. So anyone of you able to keep your sand bed clean and white as new sand? Please share your experience. BTW, if there any fish or other invert other than snail that will clean the sand bed?
  6. I remember someone said that it is not advisable to change the type of salt mix. If I am not remember wrongly, he claimed that different manufacturer use different raw material and may result in some chemical reaction of trace elements when two different type salt mix used. Is it true? Anyone has bad experiences when switch to other salt mix? Please share with us
  7. Hi, cheecopeh Simply use a screw to attach one end of the wire to the hole on the fan and another end of the wire attached to ground pin of a 3 pin plug.
  8. I got electrical shocks when I put my hand into my newly setup refugium tank water this morning. When I used a digital multimeter to measure the voltage difference between the water and the earth, guess what is the reading? AC200 V In order to find out which equipment is leaking the current. I turn on them one follow by onother and the accumulated reading is shown as follow: All equipment OFF: ~5V Maybe due to electron takes time to discharge. Normal ballast driven light: ~20V Power head: ~50V AC Fan: ~200V I finally found that the high stray voltage is caused by the unearthed AC fan. So I connected the metallic part of the fan to ground pin, the stray voltage drop to around 8V. So I urge your guys who are using unearthed AC fan to cool your tank, please ground the fan ASAP. I am now looking for Titanium probe to get rid of the remaining stray voltage. After searching the forum, Hongqixian state that the bike shop near to NA no longer stock titanium spokes because they break easily. I have also asked some bike shops, but the onwer don't even know what is the spoke made of. Someone also said that coralife probe sold by SL is stainless steel. So anyone know where to get titanium probe?
  9. I have been PR last night. There are still a lot of clams, I guess more than 50 pieces. Most of them are quite nice in color.
