Hi, does anyone use this by hanging it on top of tank (via a bracket) instead of drilling a hole in tank?
Would be great if someone could show a pic of this hanging arrangement. Kinda confused how the hanging arrangement is possible...

i bought a pair yesterday on impulse thinking i could keep them ... but they were to slow to survive in my main tank ... now keeping them in my betta box.. but they dun seem happy ... i am thinking of selling them to a experienced seahorse keeper.
i have no idea what species are they ... but the are legally purchased from LFS and are feeding on mysis ... feeding in my tank also ..
price neg. but try not to give me outrageous prices. most impt i am looking for a good home for this amazing creatures to live in ..
I saw them also at Pacific Reef. So many of them. Are they really feeding on FROZEN mysis shrimp?
I'm itching to get them also...

Hi, where is Pacific Reef?
Thanks!

Wow thanks a lot for the pic! Helps a lot. I guess from your pic, it seems that the outlet pipe is movable to either side right?
My nano is only 1 ft long so too small for a canister filter. My idea is to skim first and let skimmed water flow (to skimmer's side) into a hang on filter (instead of tank).
-
Hmm, another question.
Can I turn the outlet pipe (the one with sponge) to its side so that outlet water goes into an external filter instead of into the tank?
-
Thanks Morpheous! Which eheim pump model do you recommend for 2011?
I'll try to figure the piping out.
-
I'm comtemplating a Weipro 2011 for my 2nd tank (a 1 ft nano). My plan is to hang it behind the tank and use a external pump instead.
Would appreciate if anyone could help me with these questions:
- Is an external pump possible for use with 2011? Any recommended pump brand?
- Is it more noisy with pump outside tank?
- Would external pump affect skimming performance?
Thanks guys!

make smaller bubbles By feed ..little Air in to inlet off pump
but reduce Flow rate / head ..... u can try modify pump like needlewheel
...(for low flow/head loss)
*needlewheel style -nice to make- small bubbles*
Hi and thanks for the tip. Could you show me how do I modify my existing pump to needle-wheel?
Thanks in advance!
-
hihi i m using the berlin classic venturi skimmer... i find that controlling the air intake does not really control the bubble size.... try n use a more powerful pump n overdrive the unit... gives very gd results but dont expect it to be like needlewheel or beckette type of std lah
I see. I guess a bigger pump is my next option.
Btw, any idea which pump (+/- 300GPH range) is able to run externally outside tank to my skimmer? Currently, my pump is in tank. My set-up is hang on skimmer + hang on filter.
Wanna reduce some temp for my tank.
Thanks!

I'm pretty sure controlling air intake will not make bubbles small. If you really want to do so just get those small plastic valve. Easily available in any LFS. Those used for DIY drip.
I did try those plastic air valve but it also didn't work too well. A friend told me to get a more powerful pump instead.
How a more powerful pump create smaller bubbles?
-
Hi, my venturi skimmer (old model, given to me) is not producing bubbles that are small enough. I'm trying to use blu-tak to cover the air-hose (to make small air-intake adjustments) but this method is not working well.
Can someone show me more effective ways to make the bubbles smaller?
Thanks in advance!

er...which one...abit hard to say...but in terms of quietness i'd rate the aquamedic in my opinion.
Thanks for the reply!
Also, how would you rate the skimming of Jebo? This is the 178 model right? I'm not expecting superb skimming but it is decent enough?
I asked earlier about noise because I'm planning a nano in my bedroom so I'm a little worried that Jebo is noisy.
-
Hi, which of these would you rate the most noisy? Thanks!
-
Jebao -178- filter skimmer $20
Hi, Is this Jebo a hang-on filter + protein skimmer? Or hang-on filter + surface skimmer?
Also, which shop sells this? Quite keen on this. Thanks!

Brittlestars: <<Would it be wise to place an egg-crate first before putting sand to SSB level (abt 1")? Egg-crate is to provide a more stable footprint for LR.>>
Yes, other than adding stability, I have read that this technique is also used to elevate LR off the sand to prevent formation of black hydrogen sulfide patches from forming under the rock. Or help minimize their occurrence at any rate. No personal experience with this idea though. Have you tried this for yourself? One drawback is that in a SSB setup, the crate might become visible in some areas as sand forms dunes with powerhead currents and fish activity. I wonder also how wrasses that bury themselves in sand to sleep would fare in such conditions, indeed even in an eggcrate-less SSB setup.
Nope, I have not tried it myself yet.
If you are keeping wrasses, one way is cut the egg-crate so that it only serves as footprint for LR, ie. DO NOT fill entire tank bottom with egg-crate. Hopefully, wrasses bury in areas where there is no egg-crate?
-
Hi clintcar, just add another idea to SSB method.
Would it be wise to place an egg-crate first before putting sand to SSB level (abt 1")? Egg-crate is to provide a more stable footprint for LR.

Rescaping is hell lots of work.
Alternatively, place a mirror in front of your tank to distract and confuse your angels for 3 days.
I agree with Reefaholic. The 'mirror' method worked for me when I had a FOWLR 4ft tank. Place the mirror near where the CB hangs out and see what happens.
Good luck!

i have the current us nano skimmer, yes it produces lots of mirco bubbles. Tried to modify it, adjustable pumps and air intake. Skims good for a skimmer that size. Only sucky thing is the bubbles, you can reduce but cant elimnate
Hi Froggy, what good is the skimmate? Dark or light color?

After reading so many negative reviews from www.nano-reef.com on the Current Fission Nano Skimmer, I've decided to drop the idea of buying one.
Sorry to those who were interested to buy in this thread. Now at least we know something (good & bad) on this product.
Cheers

If you are not using those Nano cube with canopy cover, there are lots of other skimmer that will suit your needs.
Thanks chrisyew for the info. I'm still checking out on user's feedback.
Actually, my nano tank (plan) does not have a cover. What mini-skimmer do you suggest? I'm planning something less than 20 gallons.
Thanks in advance chrisyew!

Worlds smallest skimmer is the $8 air stone kind you find in most LFS
haha good one. Maybe I should change title to 'World's Smallest Venturi Skimmer'.
