  1. Dyed.

Is it possible to have a thread of all the dyed live stocks with pictures?

I despise them, but being new in this hobby, I can't really tell.

Once we are able to tell, we maybe able to contribute by posting pictures and location found.

I got a bad feeling my bubble anemone is dyed, its been hiding for the pass 2 weeks without food. :(

  2. do remember it base on FCFS basics

no reservation on items hope u all understand

but for rcoks should be enough for all

    Bro,

Help me check the conditions of the fishes, I try to house a few if no one takes them.

Hate to see them ended up in the place they are bound to die, you get what I mean.

  3. oh! ok then.

yes. i know exactly what you are talking about.

this exact same thing can be commonly found in xenia and anthelias, and most other soft corals.

have witnessed this first hand many times before. long feather like threads will release and retract.

as to what exactly they are, i am not sure. i have been searching for an answer ever since.

it's not scientifically proven that they are feeding, because they are not known to feed. especially xenias.

but it's always interesting to know that mother nature never fails to amaze us! good job ;)

YEA! I was so AWE by mother nature! groupwavereversed.gif

More interesting than stupid World Cup for sure!!!!

  4. it's not feeding. it's shedding.

leather corals periodically shed the first layer of cells to clean away detritus. they also do this to grow and keep themselves clean..

leather corals do not feed. they are photosynthetic.

    Hi LemonLemon,

I am pretty sure its not shredding.

The "fine tentacles" look-a-like are from the bottom of the coral, not the top. I wasn't able to capture a high defination video but its definitely trying to catch something. The moment it touches some "dust" it will retract back for a while, then release the "thing" out to flow again. The "thing" looks like a feather and can be extended a pretty good distance and retract back again. Very interesting to watch!

  5. thanks bro for the encouragement... am gaining little confidence day by day.

however, i'm losing the pink colouration. Suspect must be due to nitrate spike as i recently lost about 11 fish within 5 days. (1 true perc, 5 chromis and 5 mini fish).

Only managed to recover 4 carcasses. (3 chromis and 1 mini fish).

Added some rowa 2 days ago and today did a partial water change. Salinity was wrongly adjusted to 1.026 (from 1.024). SIgh, gotta work a little harder.

I read somewhere lack of potassium can cause discoloring.

  6. I will be using a chiller so there is no longer a need for the fan. I have also changed the design to exclude the Refugium. I will be running a nano algae scrubber instead.

All calculations are done by myself and have double checked with the Tank Maker himself. It should be fine.

Attached is my latest sketch of the tank.

This is the latest plan bros! Please do comment on the intended placements of the individual corals.

    Many Thanks! =)

I suggest you pump the water back to the tank direct from the scrubber. I do not want to trap all the pods in the filters.

My previous try with acrylic holding the IOS failed miserably. It warp too much under pressure.

I suggest maker to use a slightly thinner glass, then cover it with a 3mm acrylic.

  7. Yeah.... its opened fully already last night when I return home, think the hermit must have scare the crab out of it. So happy to see it fully opened from outside my house I forgot to remove my shoes (kena suan by my daughter because I always whine when she took off her shoe in the house).... thumbsup.gif

A friend told me "Marine tank is not interesting in the things you can see in the day, but what you can see after the lights is off..."

So my wife and me went hunting the tank after our supper. Surprise to have found a tiny crab look alike being about 3mm size. Its seems to be like grabbing food from the water. so cutelaugh.gif

Saw a tiny white long (about 2mm) worm-look-a-light dancing to our LED torch. laugh.gif

Most interesting findings is we witness the stool leather coral feeding! Its simply amazing!!!! Manage to capture it down on iPhone video after we spent about 20 mins trying to get the best light angle. Need to find out how to post video here.... lol.... the super fine tentacles (correct word?) shoot up and down!!! So mystical! cool.gif

PS: I guess its nothing new to you guys, only fascinating to newbies like me..... biggrin.gifbiggrin.gif

  8. if it is really an eyesore, after cycling, you can also take out the rock, use a toothbrush and brush it in a pail of saltwater to remove them.....

(maybe during the 1st WC as you will be changing 30 - 50% of the water).

anyway during the 1st 2 months, there will be a lot of algae boom..... (new tank syndrome).

get prepared to use your tooth brush pretty often :)

I am lazy type, I will leave them alone hoping coraline alage will grow over them... lol
