OK, some words from an outsider... please do not take offence, as I mean these comments to be totally constructive, I am sure AT will let me know if I have stepped over the line. I am not even going to talk about the original subject... so sorry for being
Talk of meetings being hard to organise etc is absolute rubbish. You are NEVER going to get everyone to a meeting, but the key point is to have the semi-regularly, and then hopefully people get into a routine, and set aside the time to turn up. It does not have to be a formal thing. How many of you meet up when going to an LFS because there is a hot shipment arriving. I know when I have been out with Scarab, I always meet a lot of you as we wait for the shipments to arrive. If you think about that for a minute, how hard would it be for all of you to gather 30 minutes prior at a Kopi Tiam or hawker centre just to shoot the breeze prior to emptying your wallets on a new acans colony? That is all it takes.
It does not have to be an 'official SRC sanctioned event'. Lets not over complicate things here.
The important thing about forums like this, is that it establishes a community network of people with like minded interests. The extension of the forums into meetings is to strengthen that community even further. Don't have formal meetings etc to start with, just have a gathering at someone house every so often, with some food, people bring their own drinks, and you just sit down and talk about stuff...
Maybe this will extend into formal meetings, but it does not have to... however what will happen is that binds will be stronger between all of you. how amny of you have a fellow SRC member look after your tank when you are on vacation? How many of you call other SRC members when you see good stuff at an LFS? How many of you would like to be able to call someone in the middle of the night when something is wrong with your slice of the ocean? If you have regular meetings, and supplement that with posting on SRC, then it is very easy to do.
AT needs to be credited for his sensational efforts in establishing SRC, and continuing to foster its development. However, you as it members need to help him steer it, and make it "the place to discuss reefs in Singapore".
Don't shoot ideas down. but don't be complacent and think everything is going smoothly either. Think about what you like about SRC, and do your best to keep those aspects working. Think about what you don't like, and start working on them yourself to fix it. if you don't like the backstabbing, then stay out of it. If you don't like the lack of personal organised catchups... put a post up about having a few people over to your place, or meeting somewhere. Whoever wants to come can come, it is their decision. But don't stand back and wait for someone else to do all the work.
Enough from the 'outsider'

Would prefer, anyway, most of us here r stranger right.
Think about it, when u go to LFS, any1 talk to u. They do their part , u do your part.
Hiding what they buy. bla bla bal.
Stranger = Stranger
It's strict FACT
Cheer ")
Not true, Scarab and I were at PR last week, and there were about 8 SRC members talking to each other. (They even talked to me until Scarab told them my SRC nick! )

Are you kidding me... Singapore unsafe... now that is the funniest thing I have ever heard.
Coming from Melbourne (which I believe is a very safe city btw), Singapore is 1000 times safer.
I have been to a lot of places around the world (New York, London, Hong Kong, Rome, Paris just to name a few) and Singapore would have to be one of the safest places I have ever been. It was so safe I was happy enough to bring my children here last time... not something I consider lightly, as they were going to be with my wife during the day whilst I was at work.
However, I think the addition of the casino's will be a very bad move. Petty crime will rise as a result... hopefully not too much.

Congrats from the other side of the Indian Ocean
Welcome to the best time of your life. I hope May May is well, and that you have stored up your sleep credits, because you will now start to cash them in!
Give the baby a blessing from Natalie & myself, and send us some pics when you have a chance.

Our waste water goes into the washing machine.... it is perfect for washing clothes with!

We got an online business up an running with A$20K outlay, and turned it into a business turning over more than A$100K per year in 36 months.... but it was 36 months of hell, long hours, shortage of cash flow etc etc etc... not something to be taken lightly.
-
I did say in my original post that you would need to buy your X10 devices locally.... the central unit does come in a 220V version however, and rest assured that is what we will be ordering.
-
IKS can do the follow.
- Battery backup too
- possible to program via PC with Timon software
- Possible for Email alarm notification with Timon software
- Possible for Email => SMS alarm notification (no need SMS module) with Timon software
- Possible for status update via SMS/email with Timon software
- Timon software cost abt S$170.
- Can take more than one probe of the same type, eg, 2 or more pH probe, 2 or more ORP probe etc, meaning you can control 2 tank with 1 controller.
Hi Weileong,
Firstly, apologies for leaving out a couple of things, my knowledge of the IKS is not as good as the Neptune
The 2 probes is a definite advantage, and one that the Aquacontroller can not match. Very useful for monitoring pH in tank and reactor effluent etc.
The Timon software is very good, but it still does not allow you to control devices remotely... something which is a must have for me... as is a multitude of devices without cords going everywhere... so X10 is another pre-requisite.
I guess what I am saying is that for me, the Neptune does a couple of key things that the IKS can't, and it is cheaper! However, they are both very good products.
However, hopefully someone can organise a bulk order for the IKS as well, and then we can appeal to all markets!!
-
Neptune aquacontroller is not bad. But i would prefer IKS. which can give more options.
OK, I don't agree, so lets compare
What both systems can do:
- Measure and regulate pH, redox potential, conductivity, temperature, oxygen
- a PC interface for data analysis on the PC
- an update facility via Flash-memory technology
- day/night simulation
- lunar-phase simulation
- high-tide/low-tide simulation
- currents simulation
- timer functions
- interval functions
- nocturnal reduction
- illuminated LC-display
- a real-time clock
- acoustic, visual and external alarms
What the IKS can do that the Neptune can't
- automatic sensor recognition and sensor test
- monitor and regulate : water level, air pressure
What the Neptune can do that the IKS can't
- Ethernet (so can be wireless)... Aquacontroller III only
- unlimited devices (via X10)
- Can control devices remotely via direct modem connection
- Battery backup
- you can program it from your PC... don't have to sit there pressing buttons
- Embedded HTTP and telnet servers (Aquacontroller III only)
- Email alarm notification (Aquacontroller III only)
now let's look at normal RRP
IKS : US$ 430.75
Aquacontroller II : US$274.95
Aquacontroller Pro : US$479.95
Aquacontroller III : US$829.95
it is not contest for mine... but if you want to go with the IKS, then so be it!

Hi there Bandit, if you don't mind me asking, why not the Junior version as well? Seems reasonable enough for reefers who aren't interested in the full - fledged version.
Can do junior too if you like

underestimate the amount of work/dedication involved, and go back to goldfish

Hi everyone,
A few of us down at Reefing The Australian Way, are considering putting together a bulk order for the ultimate gadget. I thought I would extend the offer to the SRC members too, as a means of getting more buying power
Always wanted to see your tanks parameters from your office PC? Want to be able to turn devices on and off remotely? See up an email to SMS gateway and your tank can even tell you it's problems whilst you are on holiday... so you can get someone around to look at it in an instant!
Inbuilt wavemakers, lunar cycles, light timers, and full automation of your equipment... how good is this !
Think of the $$$$ you have poured into your tank in livestock, and the Aquacontroller is not a bad investment for some piece of mind.
I am fairly sure we could get a good deal if we bought a few units... so if any gadget freaks want to have full control over their tank, please state here what model you want (only Aquacontroller II or III please) and what probes/controls etc. you want
X10 modules etc will have to be brought locally, but you guys may be able to work out a group purchase for that as well.
So for now, check out the website and let me know if you are interested, and I will get a price once tentative orders have been placed. It looks like being approximately 20-30% cheaper than retail, but the more people we have the more buying power we have too!
I will run this until the end of July... and once the price is confirmed I will require payment up front as well.
Please, no time wasters... only people who are seriously considering the purchase. I will PM pricing once I have an idea of who is interested.
So here we go:
1> Bandit (RTAW or SRC )
2> ddr (RTAW)
3> zeddy (RTAW)

Dan, I'll look after you mate

i've heard that chemical warefare does not even need physical contact... is this true?
True, but not in LPS... more like Softies like leathers etc from my experience.
LPS/SPS will just throw sweepers out to take out the enemy coral
-
the kwai loh knows how to use "chio bu"!!!!!!!!!!
*no offense, jamie...
None taken... no offence to anyone out there if I didn't get the use right!
I am just a square peg trying to fit into a round hole...
-
This should be part of your 'assessment' checklist
- Does she like me?
- Is she chio bu?
- Am I a chance of getting her attention?
- Do I work with her?
- Does she like reef tanks?
-
Any solution when your wife don't allow you to keep reef tank in your house?
Get new wife

Chromis Cheap and good
Yep... good, cheap and smallish

Dan
Awesome as usual...
Your tank is a reflection of your dedication and persistence (and also being on the VIP list of all the coral dudes )
Hopefully we can catch up some time b4 Friday

It is all about structuring your flow so that the LPS stay away from the SPS!
