Strongly agree with you ... they need to survive in a water which contains a certain level of nutrient ..... ... I have no success with this coral ..still with me but half botah ....that means my water too clean

Any one did any cover for your tunze ...? I notice that most of the establised tanks always have their tunze cover with coralline algae .. at the end got lots of maintenance ..to remove the coralline .. I m thinking of some kind of simple box or something to cover up the tunze so that there is less maintenance work to remove all the coralline on the tunze pump itself ? Any suggestion ?

Des, there were some topic on that regarding skimmerless tank on reefcentral ... but I think it is very very difficult to control the parameter becasue at the end of the day it is a closed loop system ... you can only control the nutrient if your closed loop system mimic the open system in the ocean meaning you have some means to export the nutrient. If you used Macro algae, you are trying to get rid of the the nutrient by bringing in another parameter.. IMHO, Macro algae is alot of hassle .... becasue you have to trim them and you need to achieve the correct balance for nutrient export .... and problem of going sexual .... provided you have alot of time then I have no experience with miracle mud ... you can do a search ... it has been discussed before in the past... I think if you have a SPS tank ... with all the slime ..... I wonder how a skimmerless tank willl be like ... you must have a great amount of macros..

I had been battling with ich for about 6 month initially when I start up my aquarium. In the end my tang still survive for about 2 years already coming to 3. What I did to fight ich : 1) switch off for about 2 days. Usu this parasite need to find a host within 24hrs or 48 hrs (can't remember the actual figure) if not they will die. 2) siphon off the top layers of sand - have to do it cautiously if you do not have a refugium. The reason is because the eggs will reside on the top layers of the sands so siphon the eggs out and throw the water away. If there are sands just wash the sands thoroughly 3) feed with garlic other measures : 1) reduce salinity (not suitable for coral tank but not so effective) 2) fresh water dip (not so effective also as the fish usu goes into a shock and die) 3) stop feeling any live food eg. brineshrimp or small fresh water fishes. 4) increase temp which will shorter the white spot parasite's lifespan. hope it helps.

But I afraid your canister pump is too weak .... you need some pressure ... I am driving it with a 1800 lit/hr internal pump place in my sump tank .... the flow is so so only.... You can try it no harm ....

You are using RO unit in your setup right ! Those cylinder used for holding the filter cartridge can be bought for about 35 bucks ... though mime is a primitive set ... then you go and buy the filter cartrigde inside ... the filter is only 5 micro .. Then get an external pump connect to the input of the cartridge and the output pump back to your tank.... so you create a closed loop .. one side suction goes thru your pump and then your filter and back to you tank... this end can use as a blower ..... to churn out those dirt in the rocks .. Got it

If yours is those cylinder type then I think the size is quite standard ... the 5 micro cartridge cost about 9 bucks .... you can buy from IMM or any hardware shop selling toilet accessories. Mime was also quite primitive ... got it from my inlaw since they bought it from malaysia and wanted to throw since they never use it as they found it too ugly.... ... You can drive an external pump to it.. so the suction is greater ... it is very useful for vaccuming all those dirts in the water column and the other side you can blow up any detritus build up in the rocks.

Alfa, What you can do for the sediment is to go buy a RO cylinder and place a 5 micro cartridge filter block inside ... your water will improve tremendously ... that is what I did for my current tank... I will swapped with carbon once in a while becasue don't need to turn carbon on always.... Try avoid feeding with live Brineshrimp if you can .... why else do you your itch comes from ... it is from these guys ... I have stop feeding my tang with brineshrimp and I have never seen my tang attacked by itch ever ... hope it helps ... keep us updated..

And medical is affortable also .... many singaporean going over to thailand and philippines to do lasik ... freaking cheap I think half the price and the doctors there are not itchi kurak doc -- they are experienced doctor who have serviced a much larger audiences than our local doctors.

Life is different Good thing in Thailand 1) Food 2) night life is good - not talking about red light 3) ppl respect you esp you are a singaporean 4) job opportunity is good 5) weather is good - no four seasons to meddle with clothing choices 6) House cheap 7) car cheap 8) Last but not least as for reefing -- just head towards your nearest reef and take one frag Of course children education, language, are the main barrier ...otherwise you are lost in the road sign ...... Can I know what is your BPM for cal reactor ? just checking though different tank might have different requirements.

Yah .. itchy backside ... added some KH buffers ... thanks for the info ... I have read that article just before you send to me. As my cal also dropping if I maintain my cal ractor at 1 bps ... so I pump up my cal reactor further more to 3 bps .. and it maintain at 420 ppm for cal. So I think as a result the KH is push up further to 19. This morning I added some Cal buffer looks like the cal is moving up and the KH dropping to 14. keeping my fingers cross.. if still cannot I think got to change water ....

If you travelled from upper bukit timah, hit a junction to woodland rd you will come across some car repair workshop .... over there are also some aluminium shops if I am wrong... there is a POSBank teller there -- you can't go wrong there is only one along that stretch. Used to contract those guys to do my army wits projects.

Should I add the cal supplement so that the KH will drop. Any good Cal supplement to recommend ? Using Salifert cal test kit.

Currently my tank is having the following parameters : Cal :420 PH :8.2 KH : 7 meq/L = 19.6 KH Mag : 1230 Understand to color up the sps - the higher the KH the better it is . I just want to know if the KH is alright. I am using seachem test kit. It says that 1 meq/L is equal to 2.8 KH meaning 19.6 KH. Isn't that freaking high ? Keeping a only few SPS to try out and LPS. Any comments welcome.
