Hi, how truly effective is the use of large qty of organic plants, such as chaeto, for renewal of tank water to low phosphate condition? Or are they just good for nitrate export? Have been pondering whether a large refugium setup can be the answer to recycling tank change water.

Thks for the enlightening explanation dr evil. But I still think the BLV lamp is not right as it is giving yellow, not crisp white light, more like below 10000k. It's got a coating of yellowish particles on the inside glass envelop after an hour fire up.

Am surprised that BLV can have misprint on tube, but it's really yellow light. Dunno if the LFS will entertain an exchange cos it was kept unused in cabinet for many moons till now.

Just replaced a long overdue MH bulb with above type today. Realized that it was very yellow (like sunlight) & zero blue tinge. Am I mistaken that 14000k light has bluish tinge or something wrong with my magnetic ballast?

I'm not pro with beckett. But don't feed aerated water into your MD55 cos output volume & pressure will drop. Air is compressible & MD55 impeller will do that to incoming aerated water. Size of bubbles in your skimmer column is controlled by air intake volume at the injector nozzle reacting to volume flow through it. Your skimmer has air throttle valve? Choked nozzle will also downgrade bubbling so clean it regularly. Don't think you can make finer bubbles unless you know how to alter air mixing dynamics within the nozzle.

The grape vines are spreading onto the container wall. They are fast growing creepers under strong light & high flow. Trying to setup separate refugium tank for them outside the sump. Always had problem with cheato filaments break off & clog the return pump filter. Maybe try your new type algae offer later when finish with this setup 1st. Thks.

Used to make my own clean water using DI resin (same as those used in DI cartridge) bought from a Jurong company specialize in water treatment. Average cost below 15 cents/litre using domestic tap water. Think there is an old thread in DIY section on DI water purifier setup. Those interested in the DI resin can pm me for the contact, not related with me in any way.

Beware those companies that supply drinking water to home. Have not heard of contract-free deliveries so far leh. Maybe business world has changed plenty hungry from financial crisis that such deals exist now. Don't believe that such company can provide man, vehicle & schedule to send small qty and charge really cheaper with no volume turnover consideration. Many stories from past forumers sharing abt tied down by contract fine print & auto contract renewal practices. Even well established companies resort to hard/pushy sales tactics. Btw for aquarium top-up, 3-10L/wk better off buy from supermarts. It's just few cents more each time & not 12/24 mths contracted commitment. Just my 1 cent worth opinion.
