Thanks to Reefer_Guy for granting me to copy his design.
Helping my brother to design his 6ft. Need comments on my modifications.
Note:
1)Not using deso pipe, worried about coping with flowrate & tuning
2)Will be putting bio-balls immediately after the cotton compartment, cos will be fish only tank. Rather to have nitrate than ammonia & nitrite.

Instead of using a ball valve, can a dimmer for household halogen light be used?
Reason is by using ball valve, pump continues to consume same power with lower flowrate. Whereas dimmer save on electricity as well.
Besides dimmer, will a resistor do the job?
Any advice?

Sea Life Aquarium
240 Balestier Rd
$20 or $25 can't remember
BTW, I'm wondering what's the difference between Zoecon & Selcon, do you know? They both contain HUFA, which is better?

Daren,
Have pm you. I can collect pt tonight.

i bought the cabinet from ikea for $59 and i just stain the wood brown
Most ikea furnitures are made from compressed wood. They're soft & will swell when contact with water.
Take care.

I don't mean to dampen you sales here..i'm quite sure very few would even dare to think about buying this system because the price to pay might just be enough to pay for a good 2nd chiller of a reputable (or not) brand!
No problem at all, Alvy. I do appreciate your comment. If it's not sold, and I donno what to do with it, it will continue to sit in my store room. Will PM you regarding the exchanger.
-
what about dead/dry rocks? anyone come across any and price?
-
Alvy, after reading your reply again. I think I know what you meant.
The compressor & radiator is $350. Other can't buy a new one at $350 because there's other components in a chiller. i.e. the fan & other electronics components. Can still sell at $400?
I was told that my chiller can be used on planted tank. Anyone can confirm? Maybe selling to planted tank user.

Oops, forget to mention the controller, I've change it too. To compute my total cost:
Old Chiller: $200
Compressor & coil: $350
Controller: $80
Total: $630
Selling price: $400
I Loss: $230
Shit, brand new set only $300!? 1 horsepower?
-
No takers? Selling at $400.

Need quotation on repair or sell as it is.
Have an old chiller & do not know its brand, outlook not nice. I think it's 1hp (to be confirmed). No idea how old, bought from a friend few years ago, paid $200.
Some background:
1) Have changed new compressor & radiator. (cost me $300+)
2) Changed the copper coil.
3) Copper coil is inserted into rubber hose, water pump into rubber hose and out to aquarium. Unlike other chiller where water and coil are in chiller sump/box.
4) Copper leach when contact with sea water. No coating was done on copper coil.
Repair needed:
1) Change to titanium coil, or coat copper coil so it won't leach
2) Change to chiller sump/box is possible
Please offer if you want the chiller. If you know how to repair, please quote repair cost.

Crab, you really buy the plastic pool and transfer it?
yes, that's the best i can find with such capacity. Good thing is they can be compressed for storage, unlike tub which is so bulky.
terryansimon, I only use it for mixing salt water. I doubt life rocks can pierce it, the material is quite durable.

huskiesg, just a suggestion, buy an inflatable pool from Toy-R-Us at $20+. It is 300+ litre. I did that for major water changes.

Hi guys,
I've heard several quotes for a 2' cube tank I've been hunting around for and I got one that's pretty reasonable, however it's not tempered glass.
Was just wondering if it's okay to use normal 10mm glass for a 2ft cube rather than tempered..
Thanks...
Hi Ervine,
I'm also looking for 2ft cube. Would you share with me the price, specs (with cabinet/stand/sump?) and contact?

Hi Ash,
Are you using metal stand? Aren't you afraid of rust?
-
bro, what do you want to kill? want to try my method? $20 uv tube + ordinary light fixture.

I've several attempts on this fish. The one I succeeded eats brineshrimps & Mysis. Unfortunately, it becomes more & more skinny after months and finally died.

PMed you liao.

Just trying my luck Anyone selling?

Garlic & UV doesn't seem to be effective for me. Copper is still the best cure, but......

wan,Dec 1 2003, 12:24 PM]brother remove it remove it.. u might get skin cancer without knowing it..you know light reflects off the water surface as well? u might be harming ur family members.
tanzy talked about coralfarm.. so i wanna say dat the fishes there are really healthy man. their quarantine room is excellent and woot
Thanks for the concern, bro.
Just wondering, isn't outdoor sunlight contain UV? And I've seen exposed UV (facing the ceiling) in public toilet. Pac Mar also did that. Furthermore its only 15watts. I used to install one PL 38watts!!
-
whoa... U.V. light exposed on ordinary light fixture? Should be encased in a casing though. Be careful of your eyes bro
so far I'm ok. just had a slight sun-burn squatting beside the sump previously. now i always try to switch off the uv whenever i access the sump.
-
I've an UV 15watt tube on ordinary light fixture. This is placed on top of sump. Water are crystal clear and lessor algae. Guess this setup has longer contact time compared to commercial UV unit.
How to reduce flow rate?

I used to have a 12v pump for boats, pump speed can be controlled with a variable power supply.
Is it possible to design a circuit to varies the frequencies (hz)? Logically, this circuit can be used to control pump speed right?
Yes, anyone knows how it works?
