  1. hi all

don't ever use those so call chloroform from DAMA that comes in those 500ml/1liter bottle. those are too diluted and should not be used for tank or water tight construction. there are some good stuff for acrylic glueing, just not those. Weld-on and Acryfix are good for water tight application. Acryfix is UV cure and not infra red cured.

looking really good with that setup. of cuz thats a Gen6000, much higher flow rate compaired to eheim 1262.

i'll be shooting for the sicce pumps the next time round. most likely the 5800 at least. will post some results when time comes. (i'm waiting for sponsors)

i don't think it's that impressive, it's alright for a DIY skimmer. it's now sitting in the store room collecting dust.

if i could do it again, i'll do some changes to it, didn't like the set up.

it's not becuz it's recirculation and some ppl think it's no good due to turbulance form the supply pumps, that can be fixed quite easily, it's more of the riser height and diameter i'm not too please with.

well, it's back to drawing board. but no more $$ to go do test for now. trying to buy more 4D & toto to see if can get some$$. LOL

all the best with your test.

  4. Hi Acontia.

I'm so inspired by your DIY protein skimmer that I've decided to try it out.

Juz happened that a friend gave me a DYMAX protein skimmer with a pump rated at 1200L/hr and I decided to modify it.

The only material I can find at home that resembles the threadwheel is the green japanese mat filter ;) so I cut away 2/3 of all sides of the impeller and use my wife's sewing kit to tie the japanese mat filter to the impeller.

Once the japanese map is secured to the impeller, I use a scissor to trim the sides so that it can fit nicely into the pump.

Next I fired up the skimmer and to my pleasant surprise, the bubbles that it produced were so fine and dense :) ( ok .. compared to my existing weipro 2013 and the 'before' performance of the dymax protein skimmer )

Here's a pic of the dymax skimmer in action

i'm glad i inspired u, but now u have inspired me. (green japanese mat filter)

pls do update fo test. all the best dude

    ;););)

    Cool

u can order direct ffrom the US on Aquaticecosystem. :D

FYI the deltec uses ball valves not gate valves.

if u really want to skim dry for the ATI's u can pinch the air intakes. u would most likely get even finer bubbles by reducing the air.

i think most ppl think that for the bubbles of all skimmer means the more the merry, but thats not always the case.

    cheers
