  1. One more question concerning lighting... I have two sets of Dymax OB T5 Lights (5 feet)... Currently comes with 12000k lights which was for my FOWLR tank previously.... See link below... Dymax OB Lights I know 12000k is the wrong spectrum of light for use with planted tanks... Any possibilty of modifying this for use? A bit wasted to buy a whole new light hood and throw these away... I do a search for Dymax products but it seems there's no T5 range for planted tank use? or is there? Can I use another brand's T5s for use with the Dymax hood? Or do I need to change ballast or what? I planning for low tech planted tank... no CO2... easy maintenance ferns like nanas, Java ferns, tenellus and stuff... Thanks bros.
  2. My Tubby Top Up gone haywire... The manual override works but the float switch does not... what could be it? I try to clean the float switch and check wiring inside... appears ok... but does not work still... Trying to get hold of Cookiemunster via handphone but cant... Thinking of getting a new one... how? Is there any other places where I can get a new one or builders of such similar devices? Thanks. Seamonkee
  3. Problem is I have a high flow return... mpphh... unless I change the return pump to a lesser flow rate one?
  4. patrick star cracked and spoilt liao... Spongebob still avail in my storeroom... the pineapple house too... BTW, thank you all for the advice... I was thinking of throwing in 200 cardinals but was wondering will they get suck into the overflow... haha... Running on T5s so I considering low low low maintenance plants... that is if I want to add plants... If i'm going for planted tanks, with the maintenance, I might as well keep back FOWLR... hehe... Also, will redecorate the pebbles and probably throw in some big ones between the current small ones for more gradient.... hehe... Thanks bro...
  5. Another pix... from the side... Oh yeah, bros, what fishes can i put in it... I cant go for plants coz its still running via overflow (over oxygenated water).. hehe... If i can go for plants, what kind of plants is hardy and suitable? Hmmpphh... Thinking of some Altum angels? I heard they need cold water? Issit so? What other suggestions? A big group of schooling tetras? Hmmpphhh...
  6. Now that i cleared my remaining tanga cichlids, fluva sand and granite rocks... This is my latest project... Hehe... looks dark but I like the "feel" of it... The pix is not doing it any justice... Got this 3 jumbo driftwood from QianHu (I ran from farms to farms.... Pasir Ris to Qian Hu and found something I really like in shape and size.. u noe how fussy I am when it comes to aesthetics...) Still have not moved away from the "slope" shape coz my tank has a side view on the right... and yeah.. for the records, its a five footer... Got some dark crystal sand too and dark pebbles to accentuate...
  7. Then I move away from marine and shift to tanganyikan cichlid... With fluva sand and granite rocks.... Then I pull out the chiller and most of my tanga died.... what's next I thot? It has to be something simpler... Hehe...
  8. That's why I'm always sceptical of what I read on our local news... Just at the start of the IMF, I was reading the newspaper and I read nothing on the headlines except lots of self-praise on our high-tech security and ability to pull off such a HUGE event over Sept 11 period... Come on, what are we trying to proof? I feel so embarassed even as I speak... A case of overdress with no substance... I totally agree... Temperate flowers planted along at Suntec in a tropical countries like ours? Come on, you think the delegates are nincompoops who can't tell that we are overly trying to impress even with such minute details? I pity those shops in SUNTEC that suffered the most over this period with the huge drop in local patrons....
  9. That's why I said I'm not surprised that there's a possibility that its already caught and shipped by fishermen who dun even noe they are new species yet to be named... haha...
  10. Always read Yahoo! News (U.S. one...)... its always ahead of our local news... hehe...
  11. Thanks for the compliments bro... Let's see... I'm going for tropical fishes this time round (something simple and easier to thrive in our kind of climate)... Now that I'm going without chiller... Keeping maintenance low and free without sacrificing on esthetics and looks... hehe... its back to the old drawing board... I wouldnt be leaving that 5 footer tank empty... it is a nice wall feature in our house... 1) Definitely NOT for luohans, arowanas or red parrots 2) may consider amazon set up with gars and such... 3) or maybe black sand, branches and stuff with only one pink giant gourami (May look good since my tank background is black)... 4) or a pair of oscars (white one) with branches and stuff... 5) or if I am wild, I may go recreate atlantis... some columns and stuff... 6) I once saw a pix with a Buddha head in a planted tank... nice touch but I'm Christian so perhaps that's out... 7) lots of options for me to explore... may do bamboo also....
  12. For all you know, it is already sitting in someone's tank long time ago... since it is from nearby indonesia... The thing with "newly discovered" species is that the recording and official naming is often times done by "ang mohs"... perhaps the local people in Indonesia have already been shipping them to ah beng in Singapore for ###### no. of years...

  19. Just saw this in Yahoo! Thought I share... Handout obtained February 2006 from the Conservation International shows a new species of Litoria Prora, discovered from Foja mountain in Papua, Indonesia. Scientists have found at least 52 new marine species off the western coast of Indonesia's Papua, deeming the waters there to be one of the richest in the world. capt.sge.okt14.180906092916.photo00.photo.default_512x367
  20. Kamsiah... thanks... hehe... Off to the hardware shop tomolo!
  21. Meaning the joint came loose.... So does it mean super glue is water proof? Or do I use PVC glue? and PVC glue can I get from any hardware shop?
  22. Hey guys, I need an answer on this quickly (that's why i post in Kopi-tiam). I was cleaning my tank after clearing my tangnyikan stuff (Yes, I gave up Tanganyikan cichlids too!) and was clearing the PVC return pipe of some bio-foul build ups when the PVC joint came apart... Now the question is after I dried up the tank, can I just use super glue to put back the PVC joint? Is super glue water resistant enoff that it won't leak? If I have to use a special glue? What brand and what glue do I use? Lastly, and where to get? Thanks! Seamonkee
