  1. Your conversation with them will go something like this.... Ervine: Uncle, Auntie, I would like to marry your daughter. Uncle: How long you been working? Ervine: Many years. Uncle: So I presume you are financially stable? Ervine: Not really.. Uncle: Why? Care to explain? Ervine: CAUSE I AM A REEFER!
  2. It was the question I asked AT when he came to my house... What happens if his baby comes along.... liao liao.... Personally, I gave up the hobby because it is a never ending spiral of problems... I have invested $8000 since I started my new tank in Feb and gave up in less than 4 months due to other new arising commitments. Dun be too quick to judge or pass remarks, this is my input. I was against people giving up halfway over this hobby as well in the past but then again, until when you have other commitments or priorities cropping up, then you will realise the hobby can be consuming in time and money. I know of people who lost their jobs and have to give up their tanks as well... Think about it, for a proper tank to sustain, you need good equipment and husbandry... AT, in his recent newspaper write-up, quoted he spent around $300 maintaining the tank... phew....
  3. Depends on your gal's parents really... They call the shots.... In my case, they did not demand for any tables or whatever.... thank God I have understanding in-laws... Also depends on the customs your gal's parents observe. Some ask for tables (Ranging from 5 to 20 depending on their number of relatives and level of greediness).... some ask for tables + hong bao (amount depends on their "greediness" too).... some tradition (depending on dialect group) has some mushrooms, pork leg cans, etc, etc.... Go singaporebrides.com. Lots of info there... My only advice... dun open and state the number of tables... let them state the number of tables and let them open the terms first... and yeah, these discussions usually take place with your parents around.....
  4. Sorry, I meant to say.... What about those in the PVC pipe? I type wrongly and put it as "What are those in the PVC pipe?" but thanks for the highlight on what it is really... Do pro-reefers really change their PVC pipings on a regular basis and if so, how often? Isn't that like a major operation? Gosh, what about those with coralline? the cleaning process must have been tougher, man!
  5. I cant remove the piping... esp the return pump which I believed has the most scum.... After two days of switching "on" & "off" my return pump at 15 mins interval to create bubbles to agitate and clean the pipes, it is still churning out bits and pieces of scums... sigh.... If I do it in-tank, will the soda damage the silicon of the tank? Also, the mechanism of the return pump?
  6. Sorry, not sure to post here or else where... Guys, as you know I have given up on marine and am in the process of converting my tank to freshwater Tanganyikan cichlid setup.. I have been trying to remove the scum (brown yucky stuff) from all the piping works... For hose, I took them out and use a soft toothbrush and water jet to "push" out those scums... What are those in the PVC pipe? Esp my return piping which is fixed and cannot be taken out... I tried switching on and off my return pump (through a timer) and the bubbles generated can agitate and push out a few... How can I do a thorough clean up? Bro klim suggested white vinegar but I thought it is only effective for coralline algae (which I dun have in my tank) Thanks!
  7. EVERYTHING IS GONE, SOLD OR GIVEN.... THANK YOU FOR READING THIS THREAD... So....... PLEASE STOP PM ME....
  8. I know... Arks creation runned by Sebastian.... he's concentrating on "giants" and moving away from african setups....
  9. Besides Cichlid Forever at Upper Serangoon Road, where else can I get good Tanganyikan stuff? Any farms or wholesaler around? I am also askin the same question at some cichlid forum, but thought I try my luck here too...

  11. I have not catch yet... but curious to know if batman's costume got nipple or not in Batman Begins... I remember Part I by Michael Keaton has no nipples, then Part II by Val Kilmer was a big sensation and it came out on the newspaper because of the nipple thingy... hahaha...
  12. My work starts on 27 June... hehehehe...
  13. I thought of that too... but coral chip a bit too "white" for tanganyikan setup... though it has pH buffer properties... Will use lots of coral chip (size 3 and above) in sump as pH buffer and biofilter instead...
  14. If we are so easily offended... then we shouldn't come inside kopi-tiam section...
  15. Here's one with malawi cichlids... What stone is this? slate? Which is the nicest amongst the three? Who knows the exact substrate and rock type in Tanganyikan Lake?
  16. This one uses granite (jagged edge).... and coral sand....
  17. Here's one.... looks like normal sand and rock rubbles... Do you think this is the closest? it seems like to me... Lighting a bit too bright though for a Tanganyikan setup...
  18. Okie folks, I understand that Tanganyikan Cichlid setup requires caves and substrate... Now the question is what sort of exact stones and substrate to use.... limestone? Granite? I can't seem to find the right info on the web... I saw a documentary (Given by a very nice LFS) to view on tanganyikan lake... The rock's appear large and like round boulders... substrate looks like normal fine sand... Here's some pix of supposed African Tank setup.. which do you think is close to it?
  19. Morale of Story... never put your pix on the internet... Now I got AT's pix... Photoshop TIME!
