_-" or u can buy a feeding station, turn on auto feeder and forget all about it...Thanks. I'm still monitoring if my set up works.
But you are right that sometimes the food remains floating on the surface. Thanks for the suggestion on the feeding tube. I didn't think of it & may get it.
Since i have the Apex Neptune, this what I'm doing :
- During feeding time, turn off return pump, skimmer & wave maker
- Wait 1 minute (for the water level to drop below the overflow level). Then activate auto feeder
- Wait 3 minutes. Turn on wave maker to agitate food on the bottom of the tank or on the surface.
- Wait 1 minute. Then turn on the return pump, skimmer again.
- Done 3x a day (equivalent of 1 pinch of pellets each time. Morning, afternoon, night)

Yo bro. U might want to put a feeding tube under the auto feeder, else the pellets might be suck into the overflow before ur fish has a chance to eat them.
Nice tank
-
Bro if u can reach pasir ris by 530pm. You will still have a good 30 mins to browse the four LFS there. Which to me is enough time for a quick look see & buy.
-
Lets start from the basic, how many fishes do you have and what are ur NO3 and PO4...
-
Very much depends on what LS u wanna keep. T5 is safer as in more idiot proof. LED u will need to know more of it to better apply it correctly.

10/03/15 - Great Hair Algae
Don't be afraid of Hair Algae, embrace them. Think about it, what do tangs eat in the reef? Algae ah. The important thing is to keep your coral happy while fighting GHA.
21 Jan 2015, the day when a tank full of GHA greeted me after my two weeks trip. One and a half month later, 90% of them are gone. One of the reasons why reefing is so interesting is that you got to see problems and get to solve them. So here I am, wishing all a Great Hair Day ah.
-
Agreed. A lot of brown corals are also healthy and pest free.
-
Yo bro. One suggestion. Would coral at the far end of ur tank on the lower rock get enough light?
-
LPS color depends mostly on light and water. Dosing wont help much.
-
Call to confirm ah
-
Fresh n marine i think got

Bro why not donate it to SEA? too big for any home tank liao
-
Wah. Post the last four digi here. See whether is the pilot king or not
-
Why not u try all in one bio pallets which suppose to reduce both n and p then.Hi Morning Bro andtsg, but changing both a same time, should be fine right?
So long as they can be reacted together, saves space and more efficient also(My thoughts, but I know I could be wrong, as newbie)
-
Get more fan but watch out for the evaporation. I used to keep a four footer without chiller
-
U put two medias in one FR... means u have to change both at once...
-
Bro are u aware that low kh will result in PH swing... what this thing about dont need to care abt other para if keeping fish only? Just bcos fish can tarhan worst water para does not mean that we shall subject them to...if you keeping fish only, dont bother about other parameters like CA,KH or whatever.
unless your fish mutates a calcareous horn, only then you can bother about it.
if u planning to keep fish only exclusively, then use tap water is perfectly fine since you dont need to bother about the phosphate/nitrates that come with it.
nsw is a better choice, just more leceh/ troublesome to buy from farm and lug it back. if got copper in the nsw from the rust in the holding tank, all the better. free copper treatment for your fishes.
personal experience for my previous FOWLRs during WC is like this :
1. drain water from tank to pail
2. empty pail of tank water.
3. replace with fresh tap water.
4. dump in salt and let it mix for 20 minutes.
5. put in fowlr.
for water top up,
1. return pump noisy cause running dry.
2. grab pail, fill with tap water.
3. refill tank until return pump quiet.
Please note what I do and how i do it, many people and websites will disagree and say its bad.
but it has been working for me in keeping whatever fishes i put in my tank.
-
Bro, i suggest u go get a list of recommended para range and follow it. Dont deviate till u really understand ur whole tank eco system requirements.oh cause I am trying to keep my salinity around 1.017, so sometimes I just use tap water, sometimes I get nsw.
currently is like 1 week evaporate, top up tap water. 2nd week wc+top up with nsw. and repeat every week/fortnight.
is it bad?
Eg if u set ur SG at 1.017, all ur other para would be lower too kh ca ph etc. So if u are keeping SG low for ur fish, then u shall dose to up other para.
As for how bad... just ask ur self what is the mati rate in ur tank...
Do yourself and your future LS a favour, go www.wetwetmedia.com and spend the next two weeks reading there.

Bro, top up is to replace evaporation so the water shall be non salt water. If really die die have to choose between this 2 to top up the tank? which is the lesser evil. Just curious
NSW is for WC, to replace salt water.
Both are for diff purposes...
-
NSW is a risk... I wonder why corals are still thriving in the open sea with NSW. Or wait... Was there any reefer going to the ocean doing 10% WC with synthetic salt? Now im mindfucked...
a) if you tank is as big as the ocean then you can use all the NSW you want
there is no someone scoping and tying the NSW with his wash/ unwash hands in the ocean and transport the NSW in a truck with contact to rusty/ dirty inside

IMO, a decent LFS shall at least have time to maintain a nice DT lah. It is their full time job loh. With all the time and stuff available to them, If they cant even keep a DT properly, i seriously doubt their skill and commitment. My nsw is from the a* B**g. I have always tested and found nitrate/phosphate to be low to Zero. Why is it that it that our results vary....its time...we have each one or 2 tanks whereas they have 20 tanks to take care.
Lfs system shouldnt even be brought into this conversation as its comparing apple to pear. There are alot of people using nsw with decent home tanks
I agree stability is key changing 100% nsw is far better than letting a fish live in 100+ nitrate.
anyway thread setter we are people who are passionate about out views and believes do not be intimidated and as you can see there is more than 1 way to skin a cat

Omar
Whats with the i am decomming beco all my ls die club?

P/s: you will know the club when u see it.

Two things:still waiting for info on how to acclimatise fish from good LFS water to bad 120 nitrate tank water.
1) there is no such thing as good LFS water
2) you shall not add any LS to a 120 nitrate tank

I disagree with the statement that nsw cannot support sps.My sps may not be fantastic but its decent
With sensitive fish
Having said the above each have their own method and each method have their own merit
Peace yo

Peace bro. I am not saying that NSW sure cannot keep SPS (afterall SPS in the ocean are NSW), what I am saying is that all things equal, using a good salt mix offer reefers a higher change of success in reefing.
Just spend 10 mins standing in front of a* B**g DT, take a close look at their SPS.... then ask him whether he is using NSW or salt mix...
p/s: I am using him as an example becos he is not a sponsor here, If I name a sponsor DT, hor hor, we all dont need to debate liao. This thread gone in 60 seconds.
