  1. What about calcium/reef builder/marine buffer and so on.. Do we need to wait some time before adding in after mixing? I do see some precipitate when i add it in immediately..
  2. I been using the same setting in my former 2f tank and it runs fine. And after u work out the number, it is roughly about 1g = ~2.7W of light which is suitable for marine (some even find it low). But i guess there is one more question that need to ans. How long does your bro on the light? btw, when u mentioned purple algae is it the coraline algae? I thought that is good and will only show up when u have good water quality?
  3. I have only been to the one at LCK 110. But it is very inaccessible unless u have a car.. Anyway, i find it not that great (suppose to be a farm right?). It was open for a few mths till now but most of the corals that he sell is put in the open without light (pure sunlight?) and as for fishes, his may have slightly more than those neighbourhood marine shops.
  4. **sigh** Just call them up. They used to sell but no longer do that now.. Any other source?
  5. Hi, sometime back i bought a Rock Beauty and can't keep it alive. It doesn't want to eat at all. And as i read in the web, there is actually some frozen food (that contain sponge) for Angel. Some of the brands include Hikari -Mega Marine Angel, Ocean Nutrition - Formula I, II. But as usual, can't find it in Sgp! Anyone has any idea where to get it here?
  6. Achilles, this is a great project!! How do u affort the time? Do u have a kiddo? I always find it fun and tiring when i work on my tank (which is usually after my wife and baby slept..). Invitation is open to new member too right? I have neer imagine that we do have such a setup in S'pore (i only got to see some of this big setup within a room in the web at those US/European countries)!! Btw, how many MHs are you planning to put up? And did you do a calculation of the electrical bill? And how did u get rid of your previous tank which is a question always on my mind (like what happen if i move etc..). Hope i did not ask too much..
  7. Oops!! Forget to mention about the operating hrs (which is pretty wierd to me!). Mon (4pm-8pm), Tue-Sun (~1pm-8pm). Tel: 62946056.
  8. The nearest MRT will be Farrer Park MRT (in the future, end of the yr?) and other than that, i think it will be easier taking a bus. I guess you know where is Little India (serangoon road)? From that bus-stop (just outside the market), take #131 and the bus stop will go --> (1) outside broadway hotel --> (2) turn into rangoon road (just after racecourse road) -> (3) outside Kentish Lodge and u should alight here! Walk for another 20-50m (in the same direction as the bus), you will see Oxford road on your left, turn in and after another ~200m, the shop will be on your left at the end of Lim Hock Kim bldg. Hope this will help..
  9. Wow "paisei".. I actually studied electronic but did not even think of getting the DC-AC relay!! This is definitely safe and I think i will go with your design but i will go down to Sim Lim to checkout how much does the float switch cost (to see whether it worth the effort of making my own).. Thanks a lot Fantom!
  10. This one look interesting but i am hoping to come up with something that can tahan me for slightly more than a week. Do you think whether it make sense if i use a timer (digital type that can set to 1 min interval) to top up daily for ~1-2min using a pump from a pail but without sensing the water level?? btw, i going on a holiday with my in-laws and i am staying pretty far away from the rest of my family. And i don't know my neighbour that well (pretty common nowsaday?)..
  11. I have been visiting the Ocean Planet for 2-3 mths already (near to my workplace). The 2 owners are pretty friendly and price is reasonable. But they don't have a lot of variety (a pretty small shop). There is only one bus that goes there (so don't need to walk from main road, Serangoon road). The bus # is 131 and it stop quite near to the shop. Can let me know if you need more detail..
  12. I'm not too sure whether mine is HQI? I bought it from Pacific Marine and it is made by Azoo (it is one of those that can be supported on a stand).
  13. Hi, I am planning to go on a holiday in Oct and i want to do up a auto topup. Does anyone has a good & simple design? I saw this one from Adrian but wonder whether it is too dangerous to connect direct to AC? <http://arofanatics.com/members/adrianli/autowatertopup/>
  14. Hi, just join the forum.. And glad to know that we do for a club setup for marine!! I have a question regarding Metal Halide. I was told there is a danger when using it (potential UV problem). But i seldom hear of it as a problem. Does most of the commercial lamp come with good protection (have attached a portion that i read in the web)? And btw, how often do we need to change the bulb? I have mine for ~8mths.. Problems with Metal Halide Products Metal halide products also produce visible light and ultraviolet A and B. However, they produce an excessive amount of UVA, which can cause skin and other cancers. Metal halides produce less UVB - less than Zoo Med's reptile and iguana UVB-producing fluorescents. Because of the danger to humans, many of these products contain shields which filter out the UVA and UVB...so much so that they can end up producing too little UVB for use with reptiles. Cheers..
