k thks guys, can gimme any rough gauge of how much various skimmers might cost at a lfs? yup ive been digging ard in the pasar malam for gd deals, need LR as well..

im not planning to stock too heavily with fish, plan to try and gear my tank towards having a few corals.. theres a 2nd hand macro needlewheel skimmer for sale at $75, owner sez cant rmb the model but sez its for 5ft tank, abt 1.5mths old, is it a gd deal? and will it be overkill?

hi guys, just starting out on marine tanks, hope to learn from the more experienced reefers here.. for a 3ft tank(without sump) wad protein skimmer would u recommend? preferebly mention names and product no. so i can see which one, cos i dunno anything abt skimmers.. i hv several pumps of various ratings for use with this skimmer, the strongest of which is a eheim 1260, so pump strength is not really an issue..

Hi its bentong from AF! interesting scape u hv there, v different from the regular marine tank.. ive also followed along and jumped onto the marine bandwagon.. just starting out on a 3ft tank now, so far its empty, not even rocks, but shall gradually gather everything i need over the next 2 wks..

i tink this is a really cool idea.. and nice design too.. only prob is that the tank is not fully transparent, so doesnt look so nice.. if can find something that is fully transparent then it would be really great.. how much did u spend on this little setup?

wow looks like a really cool place.. but from my experience of a total of 1 diving trip(s), divers are a different breed.. they eat drink breathe live diving, no time for other stuff.. dive, de-rig and rig equipment, take a short break, then back into the water liao.. or maybe its cos i went dayang, where there isnt anything but diving..

the theory behind adding sugar is that the bacteria hv plenty of surface area, nitrogen and oxygen to work, but the limiting factor is carbon.. so by adding some sugar, u can give that boost to the bacteria, as it contains plenty of carbon.. the prob is, its so effective that there will be a bacterial bloom, the bacteria will multiply super fast.. hence u get cloudy water, and oxygen will be used up v fast.. so must add a bit at a time, plus hv strong aeration, then this method can work..
