  1. just got a 2nd hand red sea prizm skimmer but after one night of skimming.. still no foam in sight.. since i got the skimmer second hand, did not come with instruction manual..was told that i is plug and play.. idiot proof.. but well.. guess that it met its match.. <_<

for now, the skimmer is running, making lotsa bubbles.. the upper chamber is always filled with water with the occasional foam appearing at the top of the water outlet leading into the upper chamber.

well.. hope that i managed to put my question across properly..

    all advice welcome..

    :thanks: in advance

  4. hi there princesseve,

    id recommend either a

    1) Red Sea Prizm skimmer (with overflow attachment)

    2) a Biostar Flotor Skimmer

    3) the Jebo Hang On Back Filter with attached venturi-type skimmer

these are all hang on back skimmer models, in that the water enters the skimmer via a suction column in your tank, is processed and skimmed in a housing externally before the outflow from the skimmer cascades back into your tank. i suggest these as for a 1.5ft tank, any internal skimmer will take up precious display real estate, plus marr the overall look. using a weipro or jebo branded type hang on skimmer that requires the placement of a pump within the tank is also quite space consuming and ugly.

for a view of how the prizm skimmer works, check out henry's display tank at marinelife. id recommend getting a second hand unit too, as they go for about $50-80 as opposed to $280 to $380 brand new.

    cheers,

    ian

    bro...

Biostar Flotor Skimmer?? never heard before.. is performance good for a small tank ..

more importantly, how many red or blue notes are needed for a second hand? ;)

    :thanks:

  5. get a small specimen of six-line wrasse to get rid of the crabs .. try mysis shrimp for new fishes ... easier to taunt them ... just my 2cents

    :off:

is it true that six line wrasse can help to eliminate crabs.. have managed to get rid of most of them but i still see that one ortwo left in my tank and being a nuisance..

    :thanks:
