  3. The water pressure for marine is far greater than freshwater. If you are not carefull your 8mm glass will burst or leak. Then you'll have serious flooding in the house. I had a friend who had his 4x2x2, 8mm tank leaked at night while he's sleeping. When he woke up in the morning, his house was flooded and all his carpets and furniture spoilt.

You see old tanks might not be strong enough anymore to handle such huge amount of water plus all the pressures from pumps, wavemaker etc. So if u are serious about reefing I suggest u get another tank with at least 12mm thickness.

    Just my humble opinion.

That's disastrous. Thanks for this warning. But i have no idea how to measure the thickness of the glass simply because there's border above it and no way to remove it. Then i am just estimating the thickness. But i am pretty sure it is less than 10mm.

How much will a same dimension tank cost with an overflow system and a 12mm thickness of glass?

  4. for a 4fter, i would think ur tank thickness is too thin.. u should hv at least 10mm.. preferably 12mm thickness...

Yes, with the sump, u dun need external filter as the sump works as a filter but u need to get return pumps.

How does the thickness of the tank plays a part and will a 2 ft sump tank with 3 compartments be sufficient? so is it ok with this tank to have a sump even if it is not design with an overflow within the tank itself huh?

And with this thickness means that i cant do reefing ready ?

  5. u can have a sump underneath the cabinet. From the look of it, it seems like a converted freshwater tank. wat is the thickness of the tank. There is this gadget called i-box or something like that.. which can then connect the tank water to the sump.

next thing, ditch the external filter.

Then decide on wat u wanna keep. Once u decided, come out wif a list of stuff u wanna get and ask ard.

Things u definitely need, is Skimmer and good return pumps.

Indeed it is a converted freshwater tank to salt water. The thickness of the glass is approximately 8mm. With the sump, means that i can operate the tank without external filter?

And will a sump tank of 2 feet be sufficient?

  6. Hey guys.

I have been losing touch with this hobby for about 3 years due to many times of failure with a nano tank. This time round, hopefully, i can turn my 4ft tank into a beauty like anyone of yours out there. However, i won't want to repeat my mistakes again by not doing research and being impulsive. Therefore, i am here to seek help, informations from all of you.

Now, i have a 4 ft tank, an external filter Jebao and nothing else at all.

I hope you guys can guide me step by step in order for me to have a great and successful setup.

I will also be getting all the neccessities from this forum so if anyone out there have something to sell which will come in handy for me. Pls let me know.

For now, my questions will be :

Is it possible for me to have a sump tank with this tank?

And what is the next step i should go about?

Looking forward to replies. Thanks for your time.
