  1. No leh

Dont think got mantis shrimp in my tank so far.

But I have a rather aggressive boxer shrimp about 3 inch, and 1 or 2 crabs

which I cudnt catch for last few months. But they never disturb my other fishes.

Likely your boxer is the culprit. I had one bugger in my tank and all the smaller fishes - gobies etc never last a week and I was really wondering why.

One night when the lights were out, I saw my dottyback sleeping inbetween the rocks and the BS was just outside the rocks and waiting to strike!

Tore down my landscape just to catch the bugger.... all in order now...

  2. Used 2 bottles before... seems to control ick to some extend but they came back once you stopped using it...

Now swear by Kent Marine Extreme Garlic soaked food (my fishes seems to love this particular brand compared to self-squeezed garlic) .... just feed diligently everyday for about a month and it goes away... survived a few rounds of ick outbreak already... (no patience to quarantine the fishes... )

  3. overwhelming foaming effect...seems like i need to make a deflection ring for my next piece...

Bro, can do one cover with deflector for me for this skimmer...... you know the dimensions....... :) If not have to do this often..... dried up ones are very gross looking....

  4. ha ha ha no need to do review...... only now got time to log on but my daughter is already rushing me to let her play with her Jumpstart Kindergarden software.... :(

Skimmers been working pretty ok since the last review by typrobin.

Here's a pic today from my Treo600 camera. My Minolta DC is being repaired... told me about 1 month turnaround... wow lau... super slow but that's another story... hint hint on those planning to get this brand..... Was thinking of getting the Z3 but holding back now - sorrie.. :off:

  5. Using them as it is (dry form) will see much of it floating on the surface and they end up into the overflow.... :(

I take a small quantity, add water and store them in the fridge. Just break into desired pieces when you are feeding and they all sink straight into the water..... :) Also added garlic juice into it now as I have a small outbreak of ick now.

  6. Hee hee, guinea pig here very busy the last few days......

Last night was foaming well. Water level was only at midway of the main column and the foam was able to rise all the way up to the collection cup! Super dry.

But once I started to feed, all the foaming stopped and this morning still no foam raising... already more than 8 hours since last feeding.... :(

Understand that foaming will stopped somehow (anyone got scientific reason) but not sure why for so long... If I feed twice a day, don't need to skim already.... :(

  7. Still tunning the bugger to get stable and finer bubbles.... not "broken in" as well... :(

The Rio 3000 lt/hr pump is causing my tank temperature to be at high 27 to 28 degrees... was always 26+ degrees using the smaller pump (2200 lt / hr)....

  8. Haha i love this statement :P:paiseh:

Agree, I think this is also how companies continue to make money.... "you don't try you won't know right"... :)

When I was "siao on" with trying all these products, I guess my mindset was that if my tank is not showing any distress, the product is working....................... :)

  9. i'm using marc wiess's bacteria vital.. works for me.. withnin a week my sandbed grew alive with millions of anoboric bacterial.. nitrite level stayed 0 even with heavy stocking.. F.O.R.M is the only additive i used besides kent dkh and kent lugol.. IMO these are wonderful products..

Erh... how did you "see" the millions of bateria... not trying to be funny or cynical but really curious.... thks.

  10. neokn, you have 5 tangs in a 3.5'? wow.. that is an accomplishment indeed. will have to learn from you. I was thinking that i was already pushing it with 4 tangs in a 6'

I used to have 4 tangs (more than 1 year) in a 2.5 x 2 x 2 with 10 other fishes and LPS etc... real pushing of my luck right.... :)

Sold them off recently as I am changing to school fishes like green chromis and gobies and blennys. But they got along very well, I guess it helps if you put them in at the same time.

  11. I never liked studying but being in Singapore, had no choice but to get that piece of "toilet paper" just to make sure no obstacles are in the way when I start working. Its now really a piece of toilet paper, taking it out only when I need it (to change jobs mainly). It does not guarantee riches but does prevent doors from closing on you. Its a practical world out here sadly...

Don't get away with trying to hard to be rich... we have read and seen enough cases where you will loose something in return... that might be priceless when you finally loose it / them.

  12. nice work bro...hhahaha

    i haven;t even done my own yet....hahaha

only did one so far, with my bro-in-law right now...

I am his "guinea pig" brother-in-law testing his skimmer now.

    Review so far:

    1. Foaming comes and goes. Noticed that after feeding, the foaming stops and comes back after 5-6 hours later...

    2. Bubbles are trapped in the bottom chamber and soon forms huge bubbles that rushes up the reaction chamber and disrupts the foaming process. Some kind of baffle may be needed to prevent this from happening.

    3. Using a 2200l/hr pump now and the water level is sometimes unstable.. getting a 3000l/hr pump to see if this helps.

    4. The air intake valve is not working - bubbles rate is the same whether its fully open or closed.... ?? Am wondering where the air comes from then when the valve is fully close.....

    5. Gasket is leaking badly if they are tightened by hand. Need to use pliers to really tighten the screws and the leaking reduces... (still leaking!)

Pic of the foaming attached. Taken from my phone so is not that clear.
