Not sure actually. All bought from Victron.... It has a big ballast that looks like the usual iron ballast and another thingy that looks like the starter that we see in FL setups, forgot what its called already....

Just got my CV 10K 150W bulb and trying it out now. Any takers for my BLV 10K? SMS me at 98154477, self collect at Sembawang.

I think it will take about 100 hours of use before the bulb "reveals" its stable colour.
Price... PM Reef Depot, one of SRC's sponsor....

Can't see any difference...

hummm.... was told last week by a glass company that plexglass cannot stand high heat.....
-
just got my new fixture from dr devil and it indicates UV filter on the glass panel.... can rest in peace now.......
to dr devil...
Victon's fixture is only tampered glass... confirmed with the boss already.
BTW, trying out CV 20K bulb this weekend. Will post some pics then and see the difference.

They are probably hiding among the rocks... hard to locate them especially when they curl up like a ball....
They might also bury themselves into the sand... mine did it often when I had one previously... happy hunting....

from the reply, i think u guys shld not worry too much .. without UV photosynthesis is not possible too .. BLV are manufacturer if they dare to say for aquarium use .. we need concrete evidence/instances that the UV is killing our corals or doing harm to us ...
do know someone in the forum uses BLV bulbs SE without shield glass oso .. for long time liao & corals doing fine .. stay tune for his update .. when he read this.
maybe it is a matter of how much UV being emitted that determine if it is reef safe ..
correct me if i am wrong ..
I read from web research that normal glass absorbs UV as well but I guess the uncertainty is how much... we are actually bombarded by UV everywhere and everyday in our lives - your PC monitor - CRT or LCD is already one source. FL lights used everywhere is another... it just that they have been deemed "safe" as the level is low.
I think the UV in my tank should be quite high.... I need to clean my glass tank almost daily now since installing the MH as the surface grows a very thin layer of green algae... All the LR are bubbling now due to algae growth.....But my tangs are happy nipping away at the LR...

you mean that distributor can modify our housing and fit it with UV glass or you mean he sells housings so we must buy new one? and do you mind telling me what the italian words are cuz I also have funny foreign words on my housing, donno if its the same, cuz wondering if it says UV shielded.
Go online to a word translator website and key in those words and it will give you the estimated meaning in English. That's what I did.

is it confirm victron MH holder glass is not UV shield?
if so where can I get the UV shield glass?
If u don't see any indication on the glass, it does not have it. dr devil is getting the UV-protection glass light fixture for me. Can PM him for help. Tough luck for me trying to find just the glass.... being searching for the last one week..... better just replace the whole fixture. Is actually the same or lower price to get the fixture.

btw where do you learn all these stuff? trial and error?? i dun think so..cos if it is you guys must have invested your whole savingss..hehe
Only AT here does it......

The foam is very dry and thus I only need to clear them once every few weeks. This is driven by a pump, not sure glow rate but definitely above 1200/l per hour.
-
Want to try your luck with a S$20 skimmer (excluding pump)- Queens Brand thats available at many LFS. Been using one and I am happy with it -real dry foam and very dark solution collected.... will try to post the pic if possible tonight... . My tank is a 2.5 x 2 x 2.
Pic as attached for your reference....

The light fixture I got from Victron does not indicate any UV-protection. It only has some Italian words which roughly translates - do not use if cracked or damaged. Now talking to another lighting distributor who says he can has those fixtures with UV protection - both the ones shown in this thread and those round pendant types. Will post them once I have more information.
MY concern on the UV is towards potential harm to humans... more so as I have young kids at home that stares at the tank often...

Been told up to two hours is ok.. wrap with newspapers....when it goes bad.. u will know.... in its good form, the "egg" smell is already quite strong...
-
Don't remind me of my heartache.... used to use pen knife blades to scrape what ever is on my glass tank until one day... saw the horrible damage it does to the glass surface.
Since then been using arcylic, works just as well, without the scratches.... some use used phone cards...

If u are looking for wrought iron stand, call 68581403 (at Ubi area). Got mine from them. Mine's a 2.5 x 2 x 3 feet (height) stand with 2 inch bar support at critical joints. The rest of the structure was using 1 inch thick bars. The usual luo han tank stands are about 1/2 inch thick. Think was about S$180.

Powder Blue Tangs by nature are already very sensitive compared to other tangs. Mine also kanna ick and RIP while my YT, PT, BT and sailfin Tang were all ok after about a month. The ick will come and go the first few weeks and should disappear after this. Seen 3 cycles of this in my tank already. Happens each time when I introduce a new fish.... must be patience with feeding of garlic juice thingy and best still, with anti-parasite food pellets. It will take weeks, not days to recover from ick. Good luck!
