Hi!
I'm finalizing my new sump with 5"-6" DSB
and can't seem to have much choice of really fine sand to buy here in Malaysia. LFS only sell gravel...One of the LFS told me he stopted selling it because people get it FOC from Port Dickson. I was there a few months back and true enough, the sand was very fine and dark and had snails and crabs living in it. Yet I am very concerned about fuel and heavy metal pollution
... The Straights of Melaka are not really clean 
.On another hand, getting the sand from the beach should make the DSB more efficient faster...
If I decide to get it from the beach, i plan to "cycle" the sump independently for a week or two to make sure it is OK to hook it up to the tank
What do you reefers think?
I've been using P D sand for the past 1 1/2 years in my sump and my main tank.There's no pollution or heavy metal detected.Try to collect the sand at BLUE LAGOON area during low tide.

There are few Islands that I know that are not packed with tourist and cheap.
1.Pemanggil Island(Johore)
2.Lang Tengah Island(Trengganu)
3.Pangkor Island Resort(Perak,very expensive but it is the best place for total relaxing like a KING)
4.Gems Island Resort(Trengganu)Private Island but affordable.

i have a 55 gallon reef tank mostly lps.it has been running for the past 7 months without any filter.i'm only using a 2012 weipro skimmer, 4 in dsb and around 40 to 50 kilo of live rock.but i have around 5 fish(1-3 in length) and the tank is full of LPS
.nothing is dying or missing.i do change 25% of water once a month.

I'm still around and so is my FOWLR TANK and REEF TANK.Deep Blue or Deep End is the same person.

Come to think of it, i realised there are indeed many rich singaporeans. all those life supporting equipment, expensive sps specimens and electric bill... many malaysian hobbyist i've met are less willing to dig deep for this hobby

What is the best PH (L/HR) for a WEIPRO 2012?I've bought it last w'end for RM 100 and there's nothing in the collection cup.Water level is around 1/2 in before the collection cup.Right now I'm using a 1800 L/HR PH.

Langkawi is a diving spot,just go to Pulau Payar and its surrounding island.
