  1. I've got some cheato in the back compartment with lights on when the main lights goes off. Water change at least once a month. I only have 4 fish, 3 shrimp, 3 snails, 1 blue legged hermit and a Sally light foot which is a very good algae eater that clears those on the LRs. For the glass I'll clean as soon as I see any sign of algae growth. Top up with Kalk mixed with distilled water and dose iodine and some basic supplements. So just these basic maintainance.

Do you have a sump for your tank? Also, is your tank a custom made or a Standard made? Btw, will your snail scratch your tank glass? Is it ok to share what is the full equipment that you use. Thanks

  2. "Expensive" is a rather subjective term... some might find it worth it, while others would think its a waste of money, so it really depends on the individual.

It comes with the tank, return pump, all white LED lights and a sponge filter. Market price now should be approx. 6.5 red notes.

Do you need to have skimmer, sump and chiller to run your tank? if I'm not wrong you have change the stock light to what light, can share? Btw, can share where to view this Dymax IQ3 or IQ5. Thanks

  3. would suggest not running the skimmer during cycling period.

we throw market prawns in the tank to kick off cycling... when you switch on the skimmer, you are removing part of the waste and hence slowing down and reducing the bacterial growth and count.

    Hi Bro,

Is there any numbers of market prawn to throw in for cycling?

  4. Go slow for now...

    Moniter the NH4 and NO2...

As for the wavemaker, Cant advise much as cant see the circulation from pic... As long as you can get circulation to most of the area it is fine... It actually depends on what you want to keep also..

Personally I dun turn the skimmer during the cycling period... Normally will on after the Cycling period..

How do we check the NH4 and NO2? do the market sell any equipment to test? and is it expensive?

    Thanks

  5. I have included a pic of the sump in post #5, although its not very clear. Basically the sump has 4 compartments - one for the skimmer, one for mechanical filter, one for activated carbon or other additive and a final one where the return pump is. I will try and take a better pic sometime soon.

Yes, the chiller is outside the cabinet, next to it and I built a wooden cover for it n stained it teak, so that it matches the cabinet. I'll include a pic of that soon too. The chiller (Hailea HC 130) is rated for 50-300 litre tanks and my setup is about 90 litre total. The chiller kicks in about once an hour for 15 minutes each time - I have the temp set at 27 C.

The tank and sump design was by me but I had those items made by a reputable local tank maker (but I was unhappy with the quality).

Total cost excluding livestock is about SGD$1200.

Do you have a list of equipment, is it alright to pm me. Thanks, btw is the chiller noisy?

  6. Can you show some pictures for your Sump area? so your chiller is place outside the cabinet rite and what is the correct capacity for your chiller? By the way your tank is self DIY or make by specialist? can know altogether how much have you spent? Thanks

  7. oh... i just close my eye and use my finger to do the clear up job with running water....

    Hi,

I did tried using running water but it doesn't work for me, probably I've not done any cleaning for too long. Till today, the skimmer seems doesn't really skimming. you can only see lesser fine bubble. sigh!!

  8. take a plastic container. Pour in the white vinegar and dump in yr Tunze pump or wat ever u need to clean. As yr equipment soak in the acid, u can see bubbles form (those are CO2 gas). After abt 30 mins, take out the pump and give it a good brush. Those coralline aglae will come off. Repeat if required.

    Hi,

Thanks, will the white vinegar damage the PVC or plastic of the skimmer?

  9. I believe any acid shld be able to do the job. White vingar can alsi be used. I buy my white vinegar from NTUC and use full strength (ie w/o dilution when i cheap my coralline encrusted tunze). It works faster too.

    Hi,

Please advise me how do you apply it? Thanks

  10. muriatic acid 50% ; water 50%. Can be use for cleaning pumps, tubes etc, besides skimmer.

Use a long glove if you can, otherwise jus a short one. Don't attempt with any protection.

Always add acid to water, not the other way round.

You let it run(pump+skimmer) for 15 minutes. Or if want a complete clean, run it thru' bleech for 15 mins first then the acid wash. Run with plain clean water for the next 1/2 hr

    Hi madmac,

Thanks for your respond. BTW where can I buy this muriatic acid? and will this acid damage the skimmer? Hope you can advise more. Thanks

    Charlie
