  1. I have use at least 4 different type of salt, live stock seems to be happy so far
  2. Yeah, there are many different brands available, and prices varies, because of the trace elements it contain which is one of the factor. for me I always buy as much as I can( to carry and afford) one shot to enjoy the bulk discount, as the difference make with that is probably more than the different in brands.
  3. Crabs are bad, they are the main suspect of the sudden disapearance of my purple fire goby.. But the crabs are so quick... they hide before the tong can get near it....
  4. I made a measurement of the tap water, it reads 8.9. Is that normally how tap water's pH suppose to be , or do I have a faulty pH pen ? The tank I have requires 2-3 litres of top up water every day, can that be the reason of the abnormally high pH in the tank ? Currently I just leave the water stand overnight and add straight to the tank without adding anything. Does Kalkwasser reduce the pH of the tap water ? Thanks, your advise is needed !
  5. HI, I have bought this big leather finger white with luminous green branches(hair) . It has been in the tank for 2 weeks, looks really fine in the first week. but have not been opening for two days, and today its excreting lots of milky stuffs into the tank, I thought of removing it from the tank, but somehow some of the branches came out and indicate its still alive, so... what should I do, if I leave it in the tank ,it keeps giving out the milky stuff ( or is it decomposing ?) I stand the risk of tank been heavily polluted, if I took it out, it will sure die, what Should I do ? Thanks !
  6. heard that nudibranch has extremely short life span... be prepared
  7. Update on the issue , I have recalibrated the Eco PH pen , it was drifted 0.1 higher, which means the pH is still high at 8.7. The dKH has been maintain at 8-9 and calcium at 440 to 480 by menas of reef bulider and reef advantage calcium alternate week water change is done with tropic marine salt. Newdamsel might be right, it could be the reefbuilder that prevent the pH to settle at 8.3, now I will try to let the dKH drop so that pH will drop before start dosing the reef builder. I will bring a sample of water to Henry to verify the water parameters to confirm.
  8. Tried changing water, but doesn't seems to have any effects on the pH, I think Anthony is right, I need to re-calibrate the Eco pen.. Thanks again !
  9. Thanks for the replies , I am using the digital ECO pH. It was reading 8.7 - 8.8 since the day I calibrated the meter... so should be accurate I think, I have not been dosing kalkwasser at all, only use the seachem Reef builder to maintain the dKH. Is that ok ? Is pH 8.8 bad for the health of the livestocks ?
  10. HI, My tank has been running for 6 months, and the PH has been consistently kept at 8.8 which is higher than reccomended. Since most discussion around aquarium is on how to raise and maintain PH at 8.3, so I assume that the PH will eventually drop to 8.3 if I let the tank takes its natural course, but six month has pass yet no drop. Should I lower the PH by chemical means or should I just stop maintaining the carbonate alkalinity dKH to let the PH will drop ? Any danger in doing that ? So far, the coral and the fishes seems ok with the high PH.... Please advise... thanks !
  11. Hi Euphria, Seachem Reef Advantage Calcium works very well for my tank, you like to consider giving it a try.
