hi, derf, invert is also very senstive to heavy metal. did you add any copper medication in yr tank before? Is yr no3 very high. dun go beyond 50 should be ok. algae boom will happen if yr tank got excess nutrients for the algae to grow. hi rrobot, you dun need to on the light if no coral inside. powerhead must, chiller, contant temp & ca reactor, better. Hair algae. Place the corals separate from yr rockwork. no contact, just on yr sandbed. prevent it from spreading to rocks. check yr no3 and po4. make sure they are low or undectable. add phosguard to play safe. HI AT, forget ard it. those pple are not open minded. If they dun even believe wat they see, then that somewat said all. PPle who experience this mostly when they are in US forums like reefs.org(years back)/ reef central. Looks like the old school of guys have moved! Well, just for info. Yes, pple can keep more than 1 tang provide they have enough space. Add odd number of same species only. Avoid keeping tang of 2 species with same shape. ex. purple wif yellow. mix a powder blue wif yellow/purple will not have a problem. sometimes, Yellow, purple together also dun fight. every fish is diff. Try to add the tangs together & their size almost the same. rearranging yr rockwork also helps them redraw their territory. check out the dif tangs species behaviour & habit & judge if they can become good friend if added. Sohal is very territorial. It will patrol ard the tank 24/7 even it means without eating. IN the end, either it starve to death or the other tang got killed. Seen this example 3 time liao. Hi rrobot, if you have placed the corals in tank if yr tank water is good, then leave it and let it cycle. dun add any fishes yet till you see yr sandbed is populated with live form. When you got algae boom of diatom, get clean up crew to do the job. Soon, you will see many new life forms growing out of the rock & its very cool. i will let it cycle for at least 2 mths so that i can see the new life forms personally. U do not really need to wait for coralline to grow on glass. rocks is enough. this isn't a very gd way to gauge. It just means that the water got high level of alk & ca for them to grow. we all know most coralline dun grow under strong mh light. if rrobot got strong mh, liao, he no need to add anything in the coming yrs! Hi Tanzy, yup, not much pple measurse redox. Its how much dissolved oxygen in the water. test kit couldn't give accurate value unless you use a probe. Pple start to forget abt this cos they have skimmer & overflow to mix the water with the air. If this value drops too low, it can affect yr fish & the amount of ca yr tank water can take. its not aggitation that breaks down the nh4 but mixing water with air/O2. Even fish farm like Reefworld use this method when kenny first setup the fish holding tank before he add a skimmer. He also use this method when there is a spike in nh4. i, myself also use it when i temp move my livestocks into a 2ft uncycled while keeping nh4 at very low level. of corse, by increasing the oxygen level in tank also improves the nitrification. Hi rrobot, since no one reply yet, i add my 2 cents. U can add the 3 corals if the water parameters is good. start dripping kalk since the LPS need it. if u still have detectable NH4, NO2 and high NO3, then dun put in. Wei

Hi RMX, besides the plus points of having a sump mention by AT, it also increase yr redox( o2 level within the water)as the water flows down from the overflow. Plus, it also will eliminate some NH4. NH4 is very unstable, so when the water flow down mix with air, it will start to break into other harmless form. Thats why pple add an air pump into tank when their nh4 is high. Wei

Hi coelacanth, those blaack sea cuke won't harm yr fishes even if its die. Its self defence is releasing super sticky white threads to disable predator. My purple tang kena before. The white thread stick to its mouth and it cannot open until i manually remove them. They will only do so if they think their survivor is threaten. Seen it do once only. Yr fishes must have eaten the eggs released by the sea apple. Many pple just got it cause its nice color but dunno they are putting a time bomb in their tank. Nvm, at least now pple know the danger of keeping a sea apple. Wei Happy Reefing!
