Darn,
Why pic neber come out??
-
Here's the pics of my DV....
-
here's some pictures of lace corals with their extremely minute transparent polyps in which they open up within their grooves.
they are almost always found hanging upside down under overhangs. so try to place them upside down in an area with very high flow.
Dunno what is the advantage of upside down for them? Epoxy or glue can't do that since they have a base rock. Will try to post a pic of the gorgeous colony I bought....nicer colour than any SPS I've seen.... Maybe I'll suspend it between 2 rocks upside down....
-
Lace is just too difficult... I have asked on RC before getting.. But the feedback is not good... They have very very small polyps which is why they are difficult to feed with a appropiate sized food... But the good thing is that it will not lose its color even if it is dead.. LOL..
That's right, but when dead, will be covered by algae, coralline, etc.
-
you can try using phyto and other planktonic foods that are meant for these kinds of corals.
but even so, it will only be prolonging it's death.
if you want to try non photosynthetic corals, seafans are the easiest. they accept bigger food like cyclopeeze. followed by cauliflowers and finally these.
Thanks bro,
My seafan is doing ok at the moment so I thought why not try these....hmmm which brand phyto do you recommend? Iwarna used to have those phyto in mineral water bottles, dunno still have? Or will zooplankton be better? Thanks!
-
it will definitely not survive in your SPS tank. these corals can barely even survive even when given the approriate amount and type of food. they just demand too much feeding that you dont have the time to manually feed unless you go for continuous feed system.
this coral's track record is even worse than cauliflowers (dendronephthea sp.)
Thanks Bro,
Guess its days are numbered....

Hi all,
As above, does anyone ever have any success with this NPS? These lace corals are periodically available e.g GO.
I got a very nice intensely violet piece from Coral Farm on Saturday.
Because it's so beautiful, i would be a pity if it dies in the tank for lack of appropriate food.
The literature mentions potential succes in unskimmed, slightly higher nutrient systems, Jaubert or ATS systems.
It probably won't do too well in my SPS system....
Am trying to feed reef pearls, reef nutrition stuff as well as DOM to see if it works.
Any input from any reefer with experience with this species will be much appreciated.
Thanks!

Dear Bros/Sis,
As above...anyone know where to get this salt (at a good price)?
Any product review for this salt? Anyone with any experiences with this salt?
Thanks!!

No problem mike, looking forward to see your natural sunlight powered ATS
Bro Eniram,
I have submitted the design to a tank maker and waiting for quote. Once its done up and running will definitely invite you to view.
Cheers,
Mike

Bro Eniram,
I viewed bro Steven's ATS today and decided that I need something bigger in a seperate system made of glass instead of acrylic to tap natural sunlight.
Bro Steven had given me some pointers to show me the way
Therefore, I will give this BO a miss.
Thanks for the info provided by all the bros.
Cheers,
Mike

Just wanted to share a product I find helps in cooking LRs.
Recently, I removed all my LRs to be placed in a 30g plastic drum while I finishes some work on my tank.
As the work on the main tank has been delayed, I decided to cook my rocks as well.
Herewith is the Instructions of cooking Live Rock by SeanT of RC.
Instead of laboriously taking our the LRs one by one to swill, I wonder whether there is a better way of doing so.
In the recent Marine Exhibition, I managed to meet with Wilson of Rein Biotech who is the current distributor of Microbe-Lift products in Singapore. He gave me a small booklet of some of the products by Micro-Lift and in it I saw Microbe-Lift Gravel & Substrate Cleaner which arouse my interest and began researching about it.
I have been very pleased with Microbe-Lift products especially Special Blend and Nite-Out II, these 2 products have served me well and I am curious whether GSC will be able to effectively cooked my rocks.
According to Microbe-Lift, The Gravel & Substrate Cleaner contains natural cellulose matter, selected biological accelerators and special microbes that biologically degrades organic sludge and muck with minimal disturbance therefore effective in aquarium sludge reduction.
As the objective of cooking LRs is to have the bacteria consume all (or as much) organic material and PO4 stored amongst them, I feel that GSC will be able to do the job effectively.
I bought a bottle yesterday and will be observing the the LRs as we go along.
Please feel free to comments and advice.
Bro, sounds interesting...whee to buy these products?

OK will let you know by Saturday

Thanks enseng, noted will highlight it when we BO the scrubber.
Mike if you want to see one that is running you'll have to ask bro Goondoo or Bro Stevenkoh. Your sump size i believe its 4ft length and 2ft wide?
2ft scubber is the ideal size that was designed by Santa Monica () if you want it bigger it's still feasible but you'll have to consider the pump size, lights and screen size. In this thread there are many DIY scrubber but with this design its enclosed therefore it looks neater.
You'll need to supply your own pipes, screen, lights and pump.
Nope you're not too late for BO. So far we're still gathering orders for BO
Thanks Bro Eniram, I've already contacted Bro Steven to view over the weekend. Yes My sump is 4 ft length and 2 ft wide.
Roger on the other parts, hope the Aquazonic lights can still be purchased. Just also wondering what's the running cost of 1 unit i.e pump + lights per month. Monthly electrical bill already quite high...
If the other parts can easily be bought outside, then yes, I'd like to join the BO for a 2' unit.
Thanks!
Mike

Hi Guys,
I want a unit. If my sump is 2 ft wide, does it mean I need a 2 ft scrubber? Its meant for installation over the sump right? Do I have to supply any parts? I would like to buy a fully functional unit i.e just plug and play. It would be great if someone could give me the contact of any bro who has one in operation so I can view to make sure I order the correct size?
I don't want to have to make repeated modifications after I get the unit.
My sump is 2 ft by 4ft.
Hope I'm not too late for the BO.

LiOnZ ..
for your nice comment!
The light set can be purchased at Nanyang aquarium @ Seletar Farmway or at Yi Hu / Qian Hu.
1 feet ( T5 8w x 2 )cost about $20+ ea.
It required 2 set. It is not included in the $130 I paid for. But think if based on 10 units to work out.
Should be able to get it at about 10-15% less..
Cheers
BRo, PMed you...

Berghia Nudibranch
in General Reefkeeping_
Posted
Hi Guys,
Anyone knows where to ge this Nudibranch?
It is good for aiptasia control.
Aquafauna?
"Berghia Verrucicornis Nudibranch Eating Aiptasia Anemone.
Originally widely published in journals and reef trade articles as one species, history reveals that several different species have been combined as if they were all one species. The nudibranch that exclusively feeds on Aiptasia anemones received it's own distinct taxonomical record in 2005. As of that date, the common name for the aquarium industry will remain "Berghia" and the correct scientific name is Aeolidiella stephanieae for this species."
