Need help setting up 2ft Tank

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I plan to setup a 2ft(L) x 1ft(D) x 1.5ft(H) 22 gallons tank and intend to place it at the balcony so the tank has to be waterproof Wooden Cabinet with Enclosed Hood. As I'm new to reefing, I need some recommendations from you guys with my setup below.

1. Are the following items a good choice if I plan to only keep LPS/Softies/1 Clam/2 Clownfish?

- Sump

- Aquabee 2000 pump

- Bubble Magnus C3.5 Skimmer

- Maxspect Razor 120w LED

- Tunze 6025 Wavemaker

- Refractometer, D.Thermometer & Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, PH Salifert test kits for cycling

- Red Sea Coral Pro Saltmix 4kg

- 22lbs of Live rock

- 100L/25 gallons NSW for cycling

- Live sand (Any recommendations of brand and grade?)

No chiller as I will be using fans instead but might get it in future if temps are high. Anything else I missed out?

2. What size of sump and how many compartments should it have?

3. Is it possible to install the Razor 120w LED under the hood or the hood has to be very high up in order to do so?

4. Should the top or side of the hood have some ventilation holes?

Lastly, any recommendations for tank maker with reasonable price that will also help to install the equipments? Preferably one which has done similar tank with what I plan to have.

Thanks!!

hi bro. im no expert

but bm 3.5 is a good choice.

to me, the bigger the sump the better. it increases your volume.

live sand i would say caribsea. grade depends on you.

4kg of salt can be easily used up very fast. Should just get the 22kg one.

Is your balcony sunny in the afternoon. The fan might not do the job. 2. As big as your cabinet can take. Not forgetting giving allowance for the height and dimension of your equipment 3. The hood can be abt 12 to 16 inches height. 4. Normally the top is exposed for better air exchange and heat will not be trapped. Hot air rises :) 5. Thanks guys for your help. My balcony is not sunny in the afternoon and it only gets indirect sunlight but I will get a chiller if temps are higher than 29c. Might also close the blinds.

Is 2 sumps compartment with same size-half(1 for Skimmer & 1 for Return Pump) better for my 2ft tank or should I go with 3 compartment? What size for each roughly?

Does the hood has to be at least 12" high in order to install the Maxspect 120w LED? I was planning to get a 6"-8" hood with easy access.

The top is exposed meaning the hood should be left open or drilling ventilation holes at the top will be enough?
