Coralline Disappearing

My green coraline is growing under my 2 x 55w lights, while the darker region of my tank the pink and purple ones are thriving... Dont know why leh. I tried take one maroon and purple coarline encrusted rock and place it under my lights. Now its starting to show signs of green coraline growth..

It is true cuz they will suffer light shock which causes them to bleached. In fact, coral farmers do recommend coralines to be acclimatize slowly to the new environment by covering them with mesh in order to filter off direct lightings and slowly removing the mesh as time goes by. (read it froma coral propagation book)

Hi,

can anyone give any advise on multiplying the number of mushrooms on LRs ?

Are Polyts like mushrooms that do not need liquid food , just sufficient lighting ?

Anemone with a clownfish do not require feeding issit ? just lighting only ?

Need advise ! Thanks :)

Dear bro,

Mushroom belongs to the corallimorphs (false coral) order. They will grow into attractive colonies under bright illumination while in depth or low intensity lighting they live in solitarity.

Pollyps belongs to the order of Zoanthids unlike corallimorphs, zoanthids occurs in a wide arrays of colours. However they are quitetoxic and aggressive towards other corals.

Both Zoanthids & Corallimorphs get majority of the nutrition through lightings although they do benefits from occasional direct feeding or indirect such as leftovers & filter feeding.

Anemone besides needing intense lighting, it need to be fed periodically as well.

I suggest you take a pix of your coral and have it Id so that you can find out what is it basic husbandry. Cuz even if yours is a mushy you still need to know what species so that you will be able to cater to its needs.

For me, I will always make it a point to research before buying and by the time I purchase, I will already have its common names & scientific names plus it basic husbandry at the tip of my tongue.

Hope this help.

hi,

how do i prevent cyano from over-taking the sand bed ?

Been observing some green, red colours on the sand bad but onli minimal. Shld i be worried ?

Must i add in calcium, strontium and trace elements in an FOWLR ? i have been adding these but is it realli necessary ?

For anemones to survive with intense lighting, how intense must it be ?? Currently my tank is small (30litres) with a 11 watts Blue and white lighting.

My diatom bloom problem is over thanks to advise by bros here. But how often shld i feed my clowns? My percula clown keeps fighting with the smaller fire clown. Any way to prevent this ?

With my tank capacity, how many fishes and invert shld i maintain ?

Presently i have two clowns and two snails. Do you think i can keep another fish or perhaps an anemone if the conditions permit ? Will this disrupt the bio cycle within the tank rite now ?

Pls advise all of the above. Realli appreciate all the advice. :thanks:

Must i add in calcium, strontium and trace elements in an FOWLR ? i have been adding these but is it realli necessary ? You should invest of test kets to see what your tank is deficient in before adding.

For anemones to survive with intense lighting, how intense must it be ?? Currently my tank is small (30litres) with a 11 watts Blue and white lighting. Observes your anemone, it is moving around or shrinking? If not should be fine.

Hi bro,

I have read your other thread about falling mushroom, and together with what you mentioned in this thread, I feel that you should improve your lighting first. For mushshies have been observed to ditched when they experience harrassment by fishes / inverts or poor lighting conditions.

Secondly, could you provide more details on your nutrients export exquipment? What Skimmer you use? What filter? Especially the Skimmer, if you do not have a proper skimmer to start with, you will have problem if you were to dose and supplements. Cus when the supplements are not ultilized they will turn back and haunt you by giving your diatoms & cyno blooms.

Hi Blur Clown,

I think for a marine tank, what you DO NOT DO is more important than what you do.

Firstly, I would stop putting anymore additives. Your diatom bloom means that your tank have finished cycling and you should expect to see green algae after that before you even get to the corallines. For coralline algae to grow, you will have to get your pH and kH right.

Anemones can be demanding. You should perhaps get your water quality right first before getting any. And yes, they should be fed with minced bits of seafood maybe once a week. Clown fishes also will not die without anemones. My maroon clown has adopted a big empty shell as its anemone and he sleeps inside there every night!

hi,

thanks to all for the above advise. i do not have a skimmer becos of the structure of my tank. it has a cover over the top and cannot be removed (filter is built-in). i guess gouldian was rite because the mushroom was situated near my clown fish, swimming around that area frequently.

i will stop adding in additives and start doing weekly 20% water change. i did notice a bit of cyano forming over the sand bed which is giving me the worries.

i also notice a bit of coralline aglae forming over some of sea-shells and dead corals i have haversted frm langkawi beaches :P

My lighting requirement of blue and white leaves me wondering whether or not it is sufficient as the specs was not given to be by the LFS.

Overall, the diatom bloom is over but the walls of the tank seems a bit reddish.

Any comments ?

Hi Blurclown,

If you do not have Skimmer than you will have to change water frequently. You can check out www.nano-reef.com, they are people who are dedicated to small tank. Inside you will also find ways of maintaining a small but healthy tank.

Hope this help.
