Any recommendations On Shrimp

Hi Guys,

I am pretty new at reef keeping. Not sure if this is correct.

Heard that shrimps are good at keeping the reef neat and tidy.

Is this true? What type of shrimps do you guys recommend?

Of course those that can leave harmoniously with the fishes as well.

And what fishes to avoid when you have them around?

Hmm .. neat and tidy? Some of them will eat leftover food pieces that would otherwise decompose in the tank; cleaner shrimps may also help with fish parasites, but I think that's about it for functional use.

Some of the easily-available ones are the scarlet cleaner shrimp, fire shrimp (very shy and you probably will only see the feelers at most poking out of the rocks), saron shrimp and glass shrimp. All relatively reef-safe.

For fish to avoid - stay away from those known to attack crustaceans. Triggers and a few wrasses especially (6-line wrasse for example). You can check with the LFS before you buy the fish, whether its safe towards your shrimp.
