Plenum or DSB?

I am re-doing my 3-feet tank now. It has a overflow system. Can i just add sand to create a DSB? Do u forsee any problems?

You could search my thread on how to do the changing - AT gave very concise instructions on how to transfer your LS out and put in the sand. I did this "overhaul renovation" last month, and have been monitoring my water parameters, especially NO3 (which was my main headache). It has been at about 50mg/l (instead of the usual 100mg/l).

BTW, I chose to have DSB ... a last minute decision made when I was at a LFS looking for sand ... since #0 sand was available then, I just thought I would do away with the "trouble" of creating a plenum. Yup, I just "poured sand in". But do refer to my thread on how to do it.
