Some questions

Recommended Posts

Hello there fellow reefers. Im new here and this is my first post :D .

Well im a newbie, and wanted to start this new hobby. Had FOWLR months ago in my 4ft tank with 2ft sump. So, need some help from fellow reefers. (My fish had been moved to a 2 1/2 feet tank)

Equipment / Things I Currently had:

- 4ft x 2ft x 2ft tank

- 2ft sump tank

- About 20kg of sand

- About 15kg - 20kg of live rocks

- Atman 106 / 107 pump [to pump the water back from sump to main]

- Dymax LS-20 Skimmer

- 4 bags of 4KG of Red Sea salt

- Bio balls, Coral Chips, Sponges

- Hydrometer

- AZOO reef tank test kits sets (pH, alkali, kh, etc)

-------------------

QUESTIONS

-------------------

- What things I left out? (The necessary ones. eg. light, chiller)

- Must I add anti-chlorine to the water before adding the salt? or can use tap water?

- How to cycle the tank?

- How to scape the rock / make the rock higher? is there other alternatives than adding more rock?

- Is Mushroom, Bubble, LPS, Leather, Polyps, Button easy to keep?

- Just to confirm, salinity around 1.023 - 1.025 or 1.018? (Some ppl say 1.018)

Ok thats all the questions I had for now.

thx alot ~ zan

lights wud be the next impt i think u shd consider... consider what u intend to keep, yr electrical bill budget (may hv to include chiller bill if u need mh)

Main Tank : 48 inch by 36 inch by 28 inch (2 sides starphire glass)
Sump Tank :
Return Pump :
Chiller : Starmax Compressor 1 HP Drop coil
Chiller Return Pump
Protein Skimmer :

1) lights/chiller not necessary if yer not intendin to keep corals. normal fl would do. if u intend to keep corals, try to get t5. it would look nicer and yer corals would appreciate it. u can cool down yer temp using fans to, but be prepared to top up the evaporated water everyday.

2) yes u need to use anti chlorine. normal tapwater would do.

3) cycling a tank basically means that yer ammonia and nitrite = 0. this can be achieved when yer live rocks are able to break down the above to form nitrate. normally it would take ard a month.

4) u can use epoxy to make yer rock structure more stable.

5)relatively easy.

6) 1.023 - 1.025

ouhk thx for the answering some of the questions.

Still cant get it right for the "How to scape the rock / make the rock higher? is there other alternatives than adding more rock?"

I know scaping the rock by put them on top one another, but is there anyway that i could used to make the rock higher other than putting more rock on the base?

Also can anyone tell me wat is the water parameters?

thx
