Color of denitrator

Hi Guy,

I have installed a Schuan Denitrator for about 1.5 year and the color of the yellow balls and coral chips have turn grey and moldy color.

Is this normal or I need to change the media?

You can take it out and rinse it. I just did mine after 2.5 yrs, so much detritus in it until it become nitrate factory instead of denitrator.

If the effluent or output us still 0ppm NO3, then why would you want to do that?

You are right we shouldn't do it if the effluent is 0ppm for NO3. But my effluent output is 100ppm (out of range)! The last time I measured it was 2 yrs ago where the effluent is 0ppm. So, I think it is best to measure it half yearly or quarterly, just to make sure it functions as it should be.
