Description

Chaetodon melannotus

Chaetodon melannotus, Bloch & Schneider 1801, the Black-Backed Butterflyfish. Hardy, though it does eat soft and hard coral polyps. Quite hardy once acclimated.

Maximum Size: the Chaetodon melannotus grows up to 6 inches.

Minimum Tank Size: The Black Back Butterfly prefers a tank of at least 60 gallons with plenty of places to hide & swim.

Diet: The Chaetodon melannotus is a carnivore and likes to eat variety of meaty treats.

Level of Care: The Black Back Butterfly is a medium maintenance fish.

Behavior: The Black Back Butterfly may act peacefully toward other fish.

Water Conditions: Keep water quality high (SG 1.020 – 1.025, pH 8.1 – 8.4, Temp. 72 – 78 F).

Range: Coral Sea, Fiji, Tonga.
