Yellow Goatfish
Parupeneus cyclostomus
Parupeneus cyclostomus (Lacepede 1801), the Goldsaddle Goatfish. The ‘beard’ of the goatfish serves as ‘feelers’ to probe the sand for worms and other hidden detritus eating life in the sandbed. Not recommended for reef systems that use the deep sandbed method. Great for bare bottom or fish only systems.
Maximum Size: the Parupeneus cyclostomus grows up to 20 inches.
Minimum Tank Size: The Yellow Goatfish prefers a tank of at least 140 gallons with plenty of places to hide & swim.
Diet: The Parupeneus cyclostomus is a carnivore and likes to eat variety of meaty treats.
Level of Care: The Yellow Goatfish is a medium maintenance fish.
Behavior: The Yellow Goatfish may act peacefully toward other fish.
Water Conditions: Keep water quality high (SG 1.020 – 1.025, pH 8.1 – 8.4, Temp. 72 – 78 F).
Range: Indo-Pacific.
