Amblygobius rainfordi
Amblygobius rainfordi (Whitley 1940), Rainford’s Goby to the aquarium interest, Old Glory to science. Perfectly suited for the invert aquarium. This delightful species is colourful and easy to keep. Best behaviour is exhibited when five or more are kept together. Rainford Gobies sift sand to find the worms and small creatures that live in the sand. Occasionally people mention they eat algae in the sandbed but only on accident as they are sifting the small pieces of algae in the sand for copepods or spaghetti worms. Excellent choice for fish only systems, tanks without deep sandbeds or reefs with very shallow sandbeds at all.
Maximum Size: the Amblygobius rainfordi grows up to 3 inches.
Minimum Tank Size: The Rainford’s Goby prefers a tank of at least 20 gallons with plenty of places to hide & swim.
Diet: The Amblygobius rainfordi is a omnivore and likes to eat brine & mysid shrimp and other meaty treats (a few times/day).
Level of Care: The Rainford’s Goby is a low maintenance fish.
Behavior: The Rainford’s Goby may act peacefully toward other fish.
Hardiness: This is a hardy fish.
Water Conditions: Keep water quality high (SG 1.020 – 1.025, pH 8.1 – 8.4, Temp. 72 – 78 F).
