Rhinobatos productus

The Guitarfish, Shovelnose Guitarfish or Shovelnose Shark are all names for a fish that is not really a shark at all, but a member of the Skate family. Prefers fine sandy substrate and grows to roughly five feet in length. Has a flattened head that resembles a ray.

Maximum Size: the Rhinobatos productus grows up to 60 inches.

Minimum Tank Size: The Shovelnose Shark prefers a tank of at least 250 gallons with plenty of places to hide & swim.

Diet: The Rhinobatos productus is a carnivore and likes to eat variety of chopped crustaceans, fish pieces, shrimp, shellfish, squid.

Level of Care: The Shovelnose Shark is a high maintenance fish.

Behavior: The Shovelnose Shark may act aggressively toward other fish. Not Venemous but may bite if provoked.

Hardiness: This is not a hardy fish.

Water Conditions: Keep water quality high (SG 1.020 – 1.025, pH 8.1 – 8.4, Temp. 72 – 78 F).

Range: South America.

Breeding: Able to breed.
