Taenianotus triacanthus

Colors can be: red, pink, brown, green, orange, purple, rust, black, brown and others. Due to the restricted availability of this animal color choices can not be guaranteed. The leaf fish spends it’s time perching on rocks and overhangs waiting for a live meal of smaller fishes and crustaceans to wander by that it can eat. It imitates a leaf or seaweed moving with the current. Can be kept in groups in a species specific tank. Does not adapt well to aquarium life due to the difficulty to encourage this fish to accept frozen foods. For a Scorpionfish, the Leaf Fish has a very small mouth so be sure to choose prey it can eat. Will shed it’s skin periodically and can change colors slightly. THIS FISH IS VENEMOUS. The pelvic, pectoral and dorsal fins of this fish can cause extreme pain. Severe reactions can occur if allergic. If stung soak injured area in hot water and seek medical attention.

Maximum Size: the Taenianotus triacanthus grows up to 4 inches.

Minimum Tank Size: The Leaf Fish Scorpion prefers a tank of at least 10 gallons with plenty of places to hide & swim.

Diet: The Taenianotus triacanthus is a carnivore and likes to eat variety of live foods (shrimp & fish).

Level of Care: The Leaf Fish Scorpion is a medium maintenance fish.

Behavior: The Leaf Fish Scorpion may act semi-aggressively toward other fish. THIS FISH IS VENEMOUS. The dorsal fins of this fish can cause extreme pain. Severe reactions can occur if allergic. If stung soak injured area in hot water and seek medical attention.
