Kuda Seahorse
Hippocampus kuda
Is sexually active from 7-8 months old; not monogamous; brood size between 10-800 (dependant on age and size of parents); average brood size for adults is 200; usually mates between Oct-Jan; can have up to 3 births per year; gestation is approximately 15-18 days (temp dependent) ; fry born at 8-10 mm, they can be offered Instar II Artemia from day one. Is sometimes shy, enjoys hunting for food.
Maximum Size: the Hippocampus kuda grows up to 12 inches.
Minimum Tank Size: The Kuda Seahorse prefers a tank of at least 30 gallons with plenty of places to hide & swim.
Diet: The Hippocampus kuda is a carnivore and likes to eat variety of inverts (Mysis Shrimp, daphnia guppies, grass shrimp, mosquito larva) a few times/day.
Level of Care: The Kuda Seahorse is a high maintenance fish.
Behavior: The Kuda Seahorse may act peacefully toward other fish.
Hardiness: This is a moderately hardy fish
Water Conditions: Keep water quality high (SG 1.020 – 1.025, pH 8.1 – 8.4, Temp. 72 – 78 F).
